licensed kiosk woes - how do you do it? (self.starbucksbaristas)

i'm a closer at a licensed kiosk and lately corporate has gotten *extremely* on us about our old practice of shutting down the kiosk for breaks and putting up a sign saying when we'll be back. they don't want us closing the kiosk, but managers never actually want to cover for breaks, and god forbid we suggest having a second person to close. it feels like there's no winning 😅 how do other stores handle this?

Im also a closer and they just make me take my breaks early on in the shift. That’s why I’m quitting. They’ll book me for 12.30-8.30 and then my last break will be at 5, bastards. Not to mention I’m a senior in high school and have shit to do.

We had 3 people quit so now I’m getting 8 hour shifts when my availability is set to 5. If I get my next weekly schedule and it has an 8 hour shift, I’m quitting on the spot bro.
Kiosk is actual hell. We do literally everything in 1 position and they think we can just be alone the whole time.

I think we all are tbh 💀. I honestly love my coworkers but I just can’t do it anymore. Next week I have 2 back to back 8 hour shifts when I specifically said I can’t do 8 hours. Idek what to do anymore 😭

i know in my personal experience licensed stores can be shut down or given an NAR for being “closed” during operating hours. I manage a licensed store and anytime there are more than two people in the kiosk past 6 upper management is on my ass about it saying that i’m over staffing. i’m not sure what company you’re licensed through but i know at safeway we are able to tell CS that we are going on our break and they HAVE TO watch the kiosk to tell customers that the barista is on their break or such, but nonetheless licensed stores are SHIT. i’m quitting in the next couple weeks because i hate working at a licensed store. but that’s how i’ve dealt with it :)

we got an NAR both for "being closed during operating hours" *and* for "unauthorized persons [managers] occupying the kiosk" 🙃

The licensed kiosk I used to work at lost 3 people (including me) at once. They were closed for days at a time and didn't get in trouble or shut down.

Welcome to why I quit. Report your store to their Union/Higher ups. Please. My entire store is getting in trouble because I reported them. We only had one manager who quit.

I’m in a licensed store and we always have 2 closers at least, but most of the time 3. The way our shifts work is two people come in at 530, leave at 2. One person comes at 10, leaves at 6. And two people come at 2. So there’s always at least two people in the kiosk. Usually the openers will take turns going on break when the mid person comes in. And the closers will take their breaks before the mid person leaves at 6. I can’t imagine having to close alone. Why do they schedule you that way? 😭

because we're just not that busy i guess - even as it is, we're being told to cut hours down to 1 opener, 1 midshift, 1 closer. your situation sounds so nice 😂

Safeway starbucks here. They make us not get our breaks and make someone else cover our lunches. I got my butt chewed out because of stuff management is doing. I close solo everytime and hate it. People who are mid and opens tells us closing is steady and we don't need two ppl. I'm bout to quit too because of how stupid it is.

Tarbucks barista here and we have either two closers, or someone scheduled late enough to take their last break.
