Today is my cake day with reddit, an account I made specifically to be a part of this subreddit. Which uncoincidentally also marks my one year with Starbucks. From mistakenly crafting all my mango refreshers with solely passion tea, to becoming an ssv at the busiest store in my district-- here some things I've learned after 365 days with the infamous mermaid.

- never get on a regular's bad side, no matter how unkind they are. you will encounter them every day

- mean customers will come in, actively looking to pick a fight. there is no winning with this type of person

- hard work gets rewarded with more work

- younger generations are more well-mannered than the ones that precede them

- starbucks serves syrups more than coffee

- the partners you have will truly make or break your green apron experience

Are there any take-aways you guys have gotten, thus far in your Starbies journey?

I quickly realized that it’s important to prioritize fellow partners over customers. Make sure to support them really well so that the whole experience of working here is tad bit better. Is the cs slammed with too many dishes and can’t get ice, go back in and get the ice yourself. Customers can wait 5 more seconds for their coffee flavoured sugar drinks.

see but our ice machine is so shitty we have to break the ice ourselves for like 5 minutes just for 1 bucket, and also get yelled at for leaving our station if its a morning shift

The last one really rings true to my situation, and the main reason I’m now 2 weeks away from quitting. Love my job, but not my coworkers

Why don’t you just transfer to another store?

I wish I could, the other two around me aren’t hiring and the next closest one is a 30-45 minute commute each way. I think I’m just going to leave the barista career and try to get a more relaxed job anyways. I’m older and the constant “doing the job of 4 people” is really wearing me down.

Makes sense, I wish you well and hopefully your next job is so much better!
