Reason for time off (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Ok-Description4413
So I am a green bean. I’m still in training but I knew of some important dates I’d need off in the up coming months. The two soonest dates (still 4 weeks out) are only partial days off for doctors appointments but I can work in the morning. I also put in one for November for my Anniversary and one for December for a baby shower. HOWEVER, my trainer told me I HAVE to put a reason in comments otherwise my manager won’t approve them. She said my manager noticed I didn’t make a note for the one in December and wanted her to tell me I have to put a reason.

I think this is extremely unnecessary as my time off is MY TIME OFF. I’d understand if it was last minute, or even PTO. But it is neither of those things. My trainer said “well we just don’t want to give you the time off if your just going to the mall. Incase someone needs the time off for a more important reason”
Who schedules a mall trip 3 months in advance? Also, who is she to tell me what is important or not to take the time off. If I’m requesting in 3 months in advanced, there should be 0 issue.

I am a grown adult. I am 22 years old. I do not need to be baby sat. I should not have to put a reason. And I sure as hell won’t be missing a baby shower if my manager doesn’t view it as a valid reason to request off. Does anyone else’s manager require this?

To clarify, these dates aren’t holidays either. I would be more understanding if it was Christmas Eve or something. I would also understand that if someone else decided to request off and we’re short staffed, if she asked me when doing the schedule, that if what I had planned was really important or not, or an all day event. But to say she will deny my request unless she knows what I’m doing is a bit ridiculous

I literally never put a reason and I ask 1 month in advance. I have never been denied time off

I think the system makes you put something down, but I’m usually vague unless I think it will help my case - so just “drs appt” or “out of town”, but for my sisters wedding I was more specific

Through either the partner hours app on your phone or on the back computer in the store you can request time off including partial days. You have to use the back of house computer, the timeclock on the iPad only let's you clock in and out

I don’t remember that being required, but I’d just put something vague. Each manager has their own weird things they like to harp on.
