Is it allowed? Last I checked, it has to be 24 hours before the shift, but yes, it's allowed.
Is it rude and should be addressed that having a 'heads up' or conversation about it is polite? Probably.

It happened often but our manager would either write something to the group that there were necessary schedule changes and to check and contact asap if there were any issues when things shifted a lot, or if it was just like one or two changes that were more individual they’d text or tell me in person to make sure I saw and all good. I don’t recall it ever happening without notice.
