Sometimes I Feel Like Customers Hate Us (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MoistSupreme_
Today in particular is a good example.

So essentially we were short staffed today. It’s enough of a problem where we had to close cafe, and be drive through only for the day. For reference we’re talking about a 3 man play from open until noon in a fairly busy store…

We noticed at some point that a guy was standing in-between two cars in our the drive through, and had to tell him it’s not safe for him to be doing that. He’s like, I drive a semi truck can I just order here and pick it up at the door? So I tell him that I can’t do that because it would confuse other customers, and I didn’t have enough people working to send someone to run it out. I politely informed him that there is a Starbucks inside the Barnes and noble across the street, in the target next door and another Starbucks proper two streets down.

Instead of doing that, he stands by the DTO point and begins heckling drive through customers, asking if they can place his order for him and he’ll give them his card to pay them or if he can get in their car with them. Super sketchy imho so I’m about to tell him to stop harassing the customers and he finally gets someone who agrees. I don’t know what he told them, but when this customer pulls up to the window, they’re incredibly rude with us as well, adding food items at the window, asking why our cafe is closed AGAIN and things of that sort.

The real kicker is that when he pays for the second order, he asks us “So, why is it that you denied that guy service? Can you even do that?”

Honestly after so many customers being rude to us today (and I get the frustration but acting like it’s my personal fault is just ridiculous) and this one in particular, I just really feel like customers think of us as the enemy somehow, you know? Like, we’re the ones making their coffee but they still have this us vs them mentality about things no matter how polite I am with them. It’s really just draining on my ability to keep working here, it’s hard when 9/10 customers aren’t just not polite, they actively leave me feeling like they dislike me for no good reason.

Idk, that’s my rant. I know there’s not really a fix just needed to talk about how awful today was.

It’s because they feel like they can treat us like garbage whenever they feel like it and nothing happens. And it’s the truth 98% of the time nothing freaking happens. When management steps up and says talk to the employees here with respect or we’ll deny your service next and actually follows through the assholes will either go somewhere else or just make their orders like decent humans.

i honestly don’t understand why ppl cant accept no as an answer

at this point just close the window until they move on and call the emergency line if it escalates

I know a lot of partners think walking in the drive through is a hard no but in the partner hub is says we should just recommend that people don’t. I think it’s easier to just not argue with them and let them run the risk
