I think my first few hours there, I almost puked twice because of the anxiety. It was so unbelievably overwhelming at first and I immediately thought I bit off way more than I could chew, but as the day went on, it got a lot easier. I was working the register most of the day, did some oven work too. I accidentally dropped a couple egg bites and had to remake them :/ and I accidentally wrung up someone for a hot coffee instead of iced... But I hope I didn't annoy my coworkers too much. My manager is really nice, and people were generally really understanding that I was new. I even got to make my own pink drink and caramel macchiato, which was cool. Don't remember how anymore, but yk. It'll come with time. I think I'm gonna like it here :)
rtsneedshelp194 points9m ago
I drop egg bites all the time 🫥 slippery tiny little shits. I hope it gets easier for you.
Throwaway2937726 [OP]53 points9m ago
Yeaahhh. I was so upset about it, and I asked my coworker how many times it happened to her and she said she's never done it ☠️☠️ but it's fine, it happens. Thanks tho
Torirock1097 points9m ago
ur coworker is probably a liar fr
Throwaway2937726 [OP]22 points9m ago
I mean she said she's been there for 3 months, so maybe not, but yeah it felt kinda bad LOL. I was like damn, on my first day too. Oh well, shit happens
Chaos_but_not_quite37 points9m ago
I'm like 2 months in and I've dropped at least 4 food items, 1 venti drink, a container of inclusions, and many other things, you're fine, you're gonna do great
clouds1834 points9m ago
my first day working food I dropped an egg, haven’t since bc now I know to clamp tf down as hard as possible to keep them in.
leeblissy2 points9m ago
been here for a year and I'm clumsy as fuck so I drop them quite often lol
disneynerd271 points9m ago
On one of my first days, I put the wrong size cups in all the cup caddies, and the wrong size lids in all the bins lol. During peak. At a v busy store. It happens to all of us lol
Ms_Disnii1 points9m ago
My co-worker showed me that pulling them out of the oven one by one instead of grabbing both at the same time reduces the number of egg bites incidents
MrsOceanGrown5 points9m ago
LIES i drop egg bites at least once a week. Also sometimes bagels
CalDoesMaths2 points9m ago
Literally. Nobody hasn’t dropped them unless they’re a liar or never done food hahaha
Garrickrelentless1 points9m ago
I've been a partner for almost ten months and my first egg bite drop happened a few weeks ago. It helps that I worked at McD's for six years and not dropping things on the floor is the name of the game there, but my main point is that there are baristas who it doesn't really happen to! 😅

If it helps any, I've been a partner for about 3 years now and have messed up SO much. I was a nervous mess at first and now I like to think I'm one of the stronger members of our team. Just takes time and practice! I've dropped egg bites, screwed up making cold brew and had to dump entire kegs, incorrectly ground up like 6 bags of coffee once and had to toss it all, and I've dropped/knocked over customer's drinks right in front of them. But it comes with the job. Making mistakes is completely okay, just make sure you try and learn from them! This was your first day, so all of this is expected and more. There's a lot to the job, so it'll take some time. You can do it!
Throwaway2937726 [OP]5 points9m ago
Thank you, this makes me feel a lot better about making silly mistakes :)
deeciphered6 points9m ago
My first shift I threw the entire cube of coffee beans when I was about to make coffee for the first time and spilled them all over the floor.
Chaos happens 😆
sheep_heavenly3 points9m ago
I remember dropping an egg bite on a bad day and it was the straw that broke me. It happens to the best of us, especially those of us who try to work quickly or aren't super comfortable at the job yet.
sushibroni2 points9m ago
those egg bites cause me pain. i started just putting the paper into the oven then putting the bites in one at a time and taking them out one at a time too. im not recooking any more of those motherfuckers than i have to. dropping them is inevitable, your coworker is probably lying and if not itll happen to her soon
goddessofwaterpolo1 points9m ago
LOOOL UR COWORKER IS LYING WE ALL DROP THOSE
Ang7363826382732 points9m ago
Especially when someone else puts in 4 at a time during a rush and the oven keeps beeping and you can’t and then it falls
yvesagain33 points9m ago
You're gonna make a lot of mistakes your first few weeks. Just remember that it's totally fine! We all do, it is a LOT to learn and no one is expecting you to be an expert right off the bat. None of us were, that's for sure
Throwaway2937726 [OP]8 points9m ago
Yeah, I'm definitely ready to make a LOT of mistakes haha. But I'm looking forward to the learning experience
FitRepresentative85124 points9m ago
The pod gets easier, just remember to always ask if it’s hot or cold 50% of people don’t say or say it wrong
Throwaway2937726 [OP]7 points9m ago
Yeah, I had to learn that pretty quickly. No one ever said anything and I think the others got frustrated with me not asking ;p
FitRepresentative8512 points9m ago
Facts
sanjiless3 points9m ago
and drink sizes 😭😭 the amount of times ive rung up a drink wrong bc of it is insane
clouds1831 points9m ago
honestly kinda hate that it defaults to grande and hot instead of forcing us to ask.
iamthegodess123413 points9m ago
Egg bites are easy to drop. I always remind myself to slow down when taking out egg bites. You are doing great !!
Throwaway2937726 [OP]3 points9m ago
Yeah, those little buggers like to jump out at you lol. Thanks :)
Excellent-Screen65034 points9m ago
omg i had my first shift yesterday!! GAH i’m having so much fun so far
Throwaway2937726 [OP]2 points9m ago
Awh, sweet! I'm so glad to hear you like it :)
ShaneStone91194 points9m ago
I knocked a cold brew keg off the side of the counter with the LID in my HAND 🥲
Throwaway2937726 [OP]2 points9m ago
Damn, that's rough. 100% sounds like something I'd do tho. In fact, I ALMOST did this today, but just barely avoided it lmfao. Oh well, shit happens
insanityizgood134 points9m ago
I usually take the egg bites out one at a time to prevent droppage. Putting them in together is easy but taking them out is more tricky.
Practice makes perfect! I started about four months ago & I was really overwhelmed at first & still get anxious sometimes, but you'll get the hang of the recipes & stuff eventually. I keep a notebook for the date dots so I don't forget in my pocket & I would look at the app to go over recipes too. You've got this!!
Throwaway2937726 [OP]2 points9m ago
Yep, I started taking them out one at a time and it was a lot easier. Thanks!
W0lf_20203 points9m ago
I hope you like it! I honestly love my job and my coworkers are amazing
Throwaway2937726 [OP]3 points9m ago
Awh, I'm so glad :)) I do like it so far! Just overwhelming
W0lf_20204 points9m ago
Yes it is extremely overwhelming at first! Even some days are still overwhelming but if you have supportive coworkers then it makes everything so much better
CITCourtney3 points9m ago
I no longer work there lol but if it makes you feel better, I was restocking the fridge once and lost my balance and dropped one and the whole gallon exploded at drive bar/DTO/DTR’s feet in the middle of peak and i had to mop it up while they were trying to work. So embarrassing I cried after I finished My manager just walked over and went “You’re gonna be mopping all day Courtney!” And i just 🤕 man….
Throwaway2937726 [OP]2 points9m ago
Oh fuck. That actually hurt me to read cause I've been there in my other job tbh. I'm sorry that happened to you :/ I hope this doesn't happen to me, but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it does. Mistakes happen, no matter how much they suck
yunggreat3 points9m ago
I wish egg bites could cook in the trays bcs they're so hard to get out the oven ☹️
fhdurham113 points9m ago
We’ve all been there! So don’t sweat it. You will get better! Hang in there. It does make it easier when you have co workers that are nice and not so nasty. You will learn all the tricks to make things easier.
Torirock103 points9m ago
so like u had no training at all or this is ur first shift after training? cuz if u had no training that sucks
acnh12226 points9m ago
When I first started, my store was so busy and understaffed they threw me right into making drinks without any training. They figured that since I knew coffee/Starbucks drinks well enough I could do it if the process was explained to me as I made the drinks. Now I’m a trainer and I tell my trainees first thing that I do *not* want the same for them and to stop me if I throw them into situations that they don’t feel ready for
Throwaway2937726 [OP]3 points9m ago
It was training
Torirock102 points9m ago
ohh ok cuz i thought they jus threw u into the madness
Throwaway2937726 [OP]5 points9m ago
Oh God no. Yeah, it was just training. They showed me how to work the oven tho and I was able to do that on my own without many issues. The register is hard tho
Torirock103 points9m ago
yeah register is confusing but you’ll be able to memorize it soon :) once you get the hang of it all and actually have downtime to study it, you’ll b okay
Squidicci2 points9m ago
you are a STAR!!!
Throwaway2937726 [OP]2 points9m ago
<3
-Zispy2 points9m ago
Don’t worry! It’ll be fine. It feels super overwhelming for the first few weeks. My first few shifts I thought about quitting lol. But are you get used to it, it’s a great job!
Firm_Friendship_91482 points9m ago
I’ve been here almost 6 months and drop at least one pair of eggs bites everytime I’m on a position that includes warming 🤭 it happens all the time! Whenever I see a green bean make a mistake I always think to myself “man I wish they knew how many times I made that same exact mistake” everyone knows it’s a high stress environment and mistakes happen CONSTANTLY. You got this! Just find a station where you feel most comfortable at and you’ll be golden I promise!
Battison002 points9m ago
The egg bites are the worst, your co workers should t get mad at that and if they do ignore them. It’s your first day, take your time, re read the order to them and confirm. Your doing good.
RubySapphireSage2 points9m ago
Ahh I remember this feeling .. now on my break today I was on indeed job searching 😭
uh-no-why2 points9m ago
At least it was just egg bites! About four months in, I spilled an entire, freshly filled container of chai on my pant leg…
Swan972 points9m ago
Everyone's first shift has silly mistakes and those aren't even the worst I've seen. Luckily we've all been there and don't typically mind as long as the person is trying. I didn't have a trainer on my first day and was just thrown in and expected to sink or swim. It was a 3 person play during peak and I was one of them. It was rough but I got through it. I've seen it all though. We had one new guy spill the entire bucket of mop water. And I always dropped an egg bite or half a bagel.
Johannalee1432 points9m ago
oh yeah, were in the same boat. I made so many mistakes, forgot to put a lid on the blender for a frappe, pressed 1 on cold foam and it got everywhere!! I have faith in us tho, It will get easier over time🙏🏽
Throwaway2937726 [OP]2 points9m ago
Mistakes are the best way to learn 🤙
skely_skeleton2 points9m ago
customers won't state hot or iced a lot of the time and eggbites suck to hold tbh
sanjiless2 points9m ago
ive been here for like 2 months and i still ring drinks up wrong quite frequently (which i’m working on LMAOO) but don’t let that discourage you!! also i noticed that when it comes to working at sb, you often feel different things about the job. i wanna quit but i also love it? it’s so weird but i hope you come to enjoy it!
wallgreensman2 points9m ago
bruh i drop like 10 egg bites every day istg 😭 especially when i stack them in the oven
Asian_Emily2 points9m ago
I’ve work Starbucks for a bit over 9 months now. I can’t tell you how many food items I’ve dropped or drinks I’ve I accidentally knocked over. I’ve had a few shifts where I’ve spilt several drinks throughout the shift
Whang2 points9m ago
Okay so... I dropped egg bites all the time because I can't hold the two egg pucks in the pair of tongs. The way I do it without dropping them is by having the egg tray on the oven lid when they're done heating, transferring the egg bites onto them and then putting the whole thing into the bag. My coworkers think I'm crazy and/or dumb for doing it this way, but it's either this or numerous dropped egg bites a shift.
rusted172 points9m ago
I make a million mistakes and somehow got recommended to become a shift (and I have a great store, this isn’t a dire straits situation)
I’m only at week 6
KableKyle2 points9m ago
Surprisingly enough I STILL make those mistakes and I’ve been there too long
Throwaway2937726 [OP]2 points9m ago
Happens to the best of us
mysteriousjuror1 points9m ago
Glad you felt better as the shift went on. It’s okay, things happen. I always tell new hires, you’ll hate it and generally will suck for like 3 months ish, then it’ll click. You’ll think less about what you’re doing, it’ll come with time and practice! Have fun though!
Vegan_Sweetie1 points9m ago
It’s always the egg bites. 🫥 I still drop egg bites occasionally.
As far as annoying your partners, I’m sure they’re just happy to have another person to work with.
I also felt like my first 2 months were just extremely stressful and overwhelming. Around month 3, I started to at least know what was going on, and how to make most of the coffees. Hang in there, do your best, and keep your chin up. Own your mistakes so we can fix them, versus trying to hide them from embarrassment, and it’ll all work out.
You got this, just give yourself time and grace to learn the ropes. It does take between 2 and 6 months to really learn the drinks at Sbux, so just—give yourself time.
sweatshirtsweatpants1 points9m ago
Anxiety and overwhelm was every shift I worked for 9 months there. There is a hack for egg bites. It’s okay if it takes a higher learning curve, there was for me.
Both-Selection-53021 points9m ago
I know you have heard this, ALL of us have felt this way. Good luck
Affectionate-Ad44711 points9m ago
Those egg bites are so slippery fr; I always joke with my baristas that they’re not officially a barista until they’ve dropped a whole cube of beans or blended a frap without a lid
DSHOMESTUCK471 points9m ago
I am newer and I make so many mistakes. I drop a lot of crap too. I’ve broken cups. Messed drinks up over and over again let alone I run into everyone even after saying behind ect. Don’t sweat it ! Just try you’re best and you’ll do fine!
Aspnome691 points9m ago
That egg bite just wanted to live! Whaaaaa 😭
KobeJay221 points9m ago
I’ve been with Starbucks 4 years and I still make mistakes. I know it’s extremely overwhelming at first but I promise it will become second nature. Training is a lot but take your time because it does take time(weeks/months). There is no pressure and your fellow partners should support you because they went through the same exact thing. I’m glad you ended up having a great first day💚
zambiers1 points9m ago
Here me out. I’m coming up on 2 years now. At first, I was feeling the same way that you are currently feeling. No, you didn’t piss off your co-workers. Yes, it’s okay to drop food (I did that a lot when I was starting out).
Your co-workers should understand that you are new and they should be patience with you. And don’t be afraid to tell customers “hey I’m new, give me a sec”.
If your co-workers are not being patience with you, then bring it up with your SM.
Hope this helps😁
Edit (adding on): you’re doing great! It just takes time.
verdeuce1 points9m ago
Your first day? Was it not side by side with your trainer and doing modules on the computer or iPad?
nebulochaos1 points9m ago
One of my first days I dropped an entire 2 liters of sweet cream. It was a nightmare to clean up and it was only me and one other girl 😭
w0lvesteeth1 points9m ago
I dropped two chicken and bacon sandwiches in a row because they kept slipping out of the bag. A coffee traveler also broke on me and spilled all over the floor a few days ago and that very same day I dropped an entire tub of ice in the back room. You’re okay. It happens to everyone, even the ones who have been here for a while. Welcome to the siren, lil green bean. I hope you enjoy it here :)
