shaken w/ ice but served w/ no ice ???? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by dabsncats
if this is going to become a popular request, i want a modifier button that charges for it or new shakers that are made for it

Lol its not a cocktail why are people like this

When people order this, i and other partners at our store explain that shaken espressos cannot be made with no ice. Although like the other comment, you can shake it with ice and strain it. But there REALLY is no point. If they still order it or if it is mobile, we just make it like a latte and no complaints, because these people think we are scamming them by giving them “too much” ice. When reality, this is really meant to be a shaken espresso with light milk 😑

Those viral videos where people are just now discovering water displacement has really messed it up for us. People now automatically associate ice with wasting money or getting less product. Ice is literally a main ingredient in several drinks. Frappuccinos, shaken espressos, iced espresso, blended lemonades, etc. It’s like asking for a shaved ice with no ice! Not to mention, how many people order no ice and then complain that their iced drinks are lukewarm?

Also, i love going to local cafes in the city,
And im unsure if people dont realize but they put heck a lot of ice in the drinks!! Some cafes fill up the cup with ice first and build a drink from there. People are just blaming Starbucks for being such a big corporate/company and not being generous with the amount of liquid they are getting 🤷🏻‍♀️

agreed on the shaken espressos! but like for teas/refreshers, or drinks that don’t come shaken normally. i can’t remember exactly the order i took that made me post this, it was something like an iced coffee shaken w/ ice and ice strained out but i don’t know why anyone would need that😭
Unicorndreamer-23 2 points 9m ago
I need an explanation on why iced coffee needs to be shaken😂😂😂😂 it’s either you make it at home according to how you want it or pay the full price and stop complaining cuz im doing the job for you 😂
wavvyhag 1 points 9m ago
i had a lady who would make me shake her iced white mocha 🤦‍♀️

Literally all of the local places here do ice first too! and the Dunks locations! Provided they’re less expensive than Starbucks but still!
dabsncats [OP] 6 points 9m ago
also, if you’re making this drink without ice but shaken w/ ice, are you filling the cup all the way???
clouds183 0 points 9m ago
i mean it is the standard to do milk to the top for shaken espressos so yeah
dabsncats [OP] 2 points 9m ago
that’s also not a shaken espresso if they want it filled to the top and w/ no ice🤣 that’s a latte
dabsncats [OP] 1 points 9m ago
the post was not referring to shaken espressos
Affectionate_Guava71 3 points 9m ago
What? How would you even do that. Spoon out all the ice?
dabsncats [OP] 10 points 9m ago
shake w/ ice then hold the lid partially on as u pour to strain the ice out. i do this for iced matchas to keep the foam under control. in this case, however, i find it ridiculous and i would loveee to say no the next time i’m asked. like are u gonna complain if i let one ice cube slip? and are you gonna be mad when it’s not full?
edit: shaker lid
badatlife15 4 points 9m ago
Yeah I feel like if I knew people wouldn’t get mad if an ice cube or two slipped through I wouldn’t be so bothered by this request, but just like we can’t guarantee no cross contamination, it’s also impossible to guarantee a drink that has been shaken over ice will not have any ice in it.
Affectionate_Guava71 3 points 9m ago
that’s crazy. I’ve never been asked to do that. I’ve gotten iced shaken expresso w/ no ice which usually I just tell them I can do light ice but not none cause it’s a safety hazard otherwise. If someone asks me to drain there ice out… really? So silly
dabsncats [OP] 4 points 9m ago
isn’t it???😭 but now i’m thinking… maybe just add like 5 ice cubes and shake it extra so they fully melt. will try that next time
floofxs2 2 points 9m ago
Make iced matchas in the blender. Not on frap setting ofc. No foam.
mangotangoafterdark 2 points 9m ago
you can strain it with the shaker too but it’s a pita
floofxs2 2 points 9m ago
had a regular who ordered it like that and told me it’s because he doesn’t like to ingest tap water. I don’t know… I had so many things that could’ve been pointed out but wasn’t going to start down that rabbit hole.

I do it for all my drinks, it's not hard. Just use the lid of the shaker to block the ice on it's way out
