are these really that hard to make?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by chef_vet
I'm currently a barista. I went to a different store the other day and ordered a Iced Vanilla latte with salted caramel cold foam and asked to add 1 pump mocha in the foam. Not a difficult drink. The manager was like " really (INSERT NAME)" I apologized. Well I get my drink. It was made as an iced mocha with the cold foam as I asked for. I wanted the vanilla coffe but didn't say anything.
Today I mobile order at the same store a Trenta passion tea lemon are with 7pumps raspberry. I'm 99% sure it's a passion tea. No lemon ade or raspberry.
Like whyyyy did they mess these easy drinks up?!?!
And I'm not the type of person to ask them to remake it. I'll just get the right drink when I go in later.
Agreeable-Ad7225169 points9m ago
Sorry that happened like even if a drink is complicated it’s still your job to make it

Liberalmuffin57 points9m ago
esp since they PAID for it too
dontcry20222 points9m ago
Even if they didn't "pay" bc it's a marked out item, it's still a MARKED OUT ITEM, it's an employee benefit that we are entitled to, it's a form of compensation for our work. Sigh the golden rule is really hard for some people, when it's your day off or it's your break, you wanna enjoy your damn drink the way you like it made.
Agreeable-Ad722541 points9m ago
Even if you ask for cold foam on a hot drink I’ll do it lol even if I think it’s ridiculous
0x52and1x524 points9m ago
I mean it’s not really that ridiculous considering it’s basically whipped creams sans CO2 lol
Agreeable-Ad72252 points9m ago
I know what it is they should just ask for whip imo
StuffiesAndBeatSaber17 points9m ago
Exactly. Today in particular I made an iced caramel macchiato w/ extra vanilla, caramel drizzle and mocha drizzle around the cup, pumpkin cold foam with cinnamon dolce powder on top, and honestly that's not even the worst I've made but it looked like pure sugar and I don't understand HOW someone could drink that.
I still did my best to make it look absolutely beautiful and worth the about $10 they spent on it lol. Like who cares if I think it's gross, I'm not drinking it and someone's paying good money for it, why would I not give them what they want.
mypoopoosmelly6911 points9m ago
yeah like, i dont get anyone who intentionally tries to not make the drink the way it was printed out or written, no barista wants to remake any tedious drink so they better make it right the first try
mushmushmushmus142 points9m ago
ngl, i do complain sometimes about drinks, but i still try my best to make them the right way. There’s times where i have made the whole complicated drink and had to redo it cause i used the wrong milk or something like that. it can be annoying, yeah, but we shouldn’t not make the drink, you feel?
also your drinks dont seem that complicated at all, ive had plenty of drive orders like this and ones far worse dw
Ms_Disnii1 points9m ago
I find the more modified drinks are easier for me (newish barista) because they have very clear instructions, at least the mobiles do
Socko-The-Sock68 points9m ago
these are the easiest modifications ever to make (i also love mocha in the cold foam) especially the second drink. idk what’s up with them, giving the benefit of the doubt maybe they were all green beans.
chef_vet [OP]10 points9m ago
No he's the SM 😬🙄😳
quickthinxallthots17 points9m ago
bring it up with the DM :) let me put it this way, if they're treating you (a customer) like that, imagine how they talk to their baristas.
Number1Barooista56 points9m ago
People just don't take their time reading stickers tbh. If I had those drinks I would have executed it with ease
dontcry20223 points9m ago
It must be nice for people who aren't anxiety ridden perfectionists. Sometimes I misread tickets, but I almost always catch my mistake before I hand it out to the customer and depending on the nature of the mistake/how busy we are, I generally correct the drink
Some examples of when I would/wouldn't correct the drink:
Would: too few pumps of syrup (easy to add more!), wrong milk, made hot instead of iced or vice versa, used regular vanilla instead of sugar free, or used the wrong kind of espresso
Wouldn't: used one too many pumps of syrup on a drink I know is sugary af anyway (like a frapp) and it's too late to pour a bit out of the cup, forgot to make the drink extra hot
kittykattt335 points9m ago
I personally would never order foam with additional stuff in it at another store and kinda stick with what’s already on the menu. The second drink though, maybe they were just being dicks but the first one for sure is a bit more complicated. Maybe I’m the dick though 🤷🏻♀️
IronKokomo10 points9m ago
I wouldn’t order it at another store, but I also wouldn’t be mad if someone ordered it from me
Except during rush, but I’m annoyed when someone orders a black coffee during rush
dontcry20220 points9m ago
Why not? When you're off the clock, you're a customer. Order what you want. Maybe read the room and try to go during a non-peak time if you're gonna get a bunch of modifications, but even if it is peak time, still, you're a customer! No drink, unless the modifications are a mile long, is THAT complicated that baristas or managers should be a dick to customers about making it.
Baristas deserve fun drinks too! Just bc we know it's annoying doesn't mean we should all deprive ourselves of the mods we want and never get fun drinks. Part of the fun of being a barista is that you get to learn new yummy custom drinks

starbucks baristas when they have to do one simple thing: 😡 grr this is too complicated
Christyawn16 points9m ago
the fact is there’s a lot of pressure to do EVERYTHING to standard. so its just easier to do things to standard than to be picky about it. don’t hate the barista, hate the company. it’s technically not their job to make things that aren’t on the menu.
Torirock102 points9m ago
putting literally one pump of mocha in the cold foam isn’t gonna hurt anyone 💀 and like we have chocolate cold foam too so like it’s not that crazy of a concept
Torirock101 points9m ago
also if it wasn’t our job to customize drinks and make stuff that’s not on the menu then it wouldn’t rlly be an option for ppl to customize drinks would it? we literally have chocolate cold foam already as well so like ??
Torirock100 points9m ago
they literally gave op a wrong ass drink
Christyawn0 points9m ago
you probably don’t work for starbucks. therefore you don’t understand what the job really is so i won’t take your comment too seriously.
MasterMischievous-1 points9m ago
It actually is their job to make whatever the customer wants. Idk who told you otherwise lol.
Jesslynnlove4 points9m ago
Incorrect. You can obviously add stuff like that, but no it is not our job “to make whatever the customer wants”. Lattes or fraps in trentas? No. Water with berries - custom tea. “Extra” frap in a separate cup? No. Plain and simple. Partners come before the customers.
Christyawn1 points9m ago
my district manager lol
Artistic-Bit-75844 points9m ago
Why are you even here?
Torirock10-8 points9m ago
cuz i work at starbucks :0!!!! and unlike the other whiny people here i wouldn’t be bitching because i have to add one pump of mocha to cold foam 💀
Artistic-Bit-75846 points9m ago
I'm not complaining about her drink, but this is kinda supposed to be a place where others baristas can vent. I have customers that complain even when their drink is made correctly. The people at the store she went to didn't even try to make her drink correctly.
happymasquerade2 points9m ago
That’s a rude overstatement. No I don’t think OP’s drink was complicated, but have you ever had to make a layered Frappuccino with cold foam instead of whip, or some monstrosity with six syrups and scoops of powder and no ice etc. and yes, I make them how they are ordered 100% of the time but yeah it’s also a pain in the ass. The drink is too complicated sometimes, it’s not me having a bad attitude.
Torirock107 points9m ago
like yah those drinks r annoying but op’s drink is not complicated it’s literally ONE pump of mocha 💀 that’s the only extra thing
sanavrse3 points9m ago
people are so mad but ur literally right like 😭
Torirock103 points9m ago
ok well good thing op didn’t ask for all that extra shit ?? idk what ur argument is. op’s drink isn’t bad
happymasquerade0 points9m ago
I’m referring to your comment that baristas get upset and call something complicated when it’s not. Maybe some do but the majority would only complain if it was actually complicated.
ColdBrewIsMyDrug19 points9m ago
That drink sounds really good. I might try that. I wouldn’t get too discouraged. There’s 3 different Starbucks around where I live and when I feel like the vibe is off at one I switch and go to a different one. Starbucks drinks are a treat for me and I don’t want to feel awkward or guilty when I get one. Take care!
Intelligent-Ad127317 points9m ago
I think for the first drink, the fault is on the manager. There should definitely have been an ask me with “mocha in cf” or something and there probably wasn’t judging by their reaction. These aren’t complicated drinks. I would make a complaint, honestly bc that manager seems hella toxic Edit:spelling
bookishwannabe9 points9m ago
my store would’ve definitely joked around about adding to the sccf but we would’ve been sincerely joking and would’ve made it :( I’m sorry they made you feel bad for it, it really isn’t that complicated and I think other commenters are right that they likely were not reading the stickers properly (either too fast or just honest mistake - although having it happen again with a simple iced tea lemonade is weird).
Vallion044 points9m ago
Some of us in my store would make a bit extra to try it out, because honestly that sounds pretty good
Renyx2 points9m ago
It's really good. We were out of malt for a few days in the summer so we made some chocolate cream cold brews with the mocha instead and I loved it.
Vallion041 points9m ago
I think we did a similar thing but no one actually ever tried it. Time to try!
chef_vet [OP]1 points9m ago
It's super good. I had a customer ask if the SCCF had any chocolate flavor to it. I said no but suggested adding malt chocolate to it and she said it was delicious. And one of the baristas made some extra and tried it. Said it was tasty but didn't like the after tastes from the malt. So she made some samples of an iced WCM with the SCCF with mocha and now I'm hooked. It's delectable!
Vallion041 points9m ago
Now I need to try it!
dontgiveah00t7 points9m ago
With all the cold foam modifications people ask for, we should get a cold foam modifier button soon 😮💨

Starbucks employees when they have to do their job

(Source: i am a starbucks employee)
madisonla4 points9m ago
No no. Get a remake. If they’re giving you attitude at that store go to a different one and just tell them the situation. You deserve a remake
bonjourimeric4 points9m ago
Yeah mocha in the foam is annoying asf but definitely not that complicated
Ill-Possession16143 points9m ago
honestly you might want to complain bc there’s clearly an issue with this store. neither of those drinks are difficult to make so i would hate to see what else they’re making wrong.
Torirock103 points9m ago
they’re just lazy :/
MonsteraNSFW2 points9m ago
Because they suck lol. I would never order at Starbucks tbh, so many baristas are inadequate at bar and don't use standards at all. I make my own drink and nobody touches it. I'm the go to when baristas want their drinks made. It's so irritating. My stores really efficient and stream lined but when I get borrowed at other stores it just....is so disappointing.
orsonvulture2 points9m ago
if you're paying for it get a remake. these aren't complicated drinks, and even if they were that doesn't excuse it. starbucks is waaaaay too expensive even with a partner discount to be sipping on something you don't enjoy! you deserve the drink you paid for, don't feel bad about asking for exactly what you paid for!!
superbear922 points9m ago
Could have been a communication issue when they rang up the drink for the foam and could have used the “Ask Me” button easily, but the tea incident left me realizing that whoever is on bar is just not following instructions on the sticker.
Could be a new partner, not enough training, but that definitely falls on the SSV for not keeping an observation on their new partner and I would definitely ask for those remade too. This way you can gage if it’s just a lack of training or a lack of care based on their reaction.
chef_vet [OP]1 points9m ago
The foam one was in the sticker as in the foam. And it was the SM that made them both times.
Cultural-Ad11671 points8m ago
1st drink can be a pain if in season where there’s a lot of different foams, busy, or if there’s fewer than 3 blenders. Sorry but nobody on my morning crew would be happy making that drink. It would be made, sure, but no guarantee with newer partners that it would be made right the first time, definitely right if you ask for a remake. 2 drink? Doesn’t make sense why it was wrong but oh well, stuff happens, we don’t know what happens in other peoples stores (I got maced once and was expected to keep working). Yea remakes suck, we all know that, and that’s probably why you hesitate, but it’s part of the job and it will most likely be right the second time, so go ahead and ask. People might be mad but at the end of the day that’s the job. We should enjoy a well made drink too, we deserve it 💗
bitternpc1 points9m ago
Please start asking for remakes. The baristas need to know about mistakes and may need the experience correcting it.
grayandclouded1 points9m ago
i never minded making those kinds bc personally i looooved putting pumps of syrup in the cold foam, or matcha holy shit *chef’s kiss*
dontcry20221 points9m ago
The second scenario may have been an honest mistake but the first scenario is majorly inappropriate.
When you are off the clock (day off or on a break) and ordering menu items, you are supposed to be treated as a customer. This means you get to order whatever you want, and your items should be made correctly and in a timely manner. It doesn't matter what you order.
CV02A1 points9m ago
I'm going to guess they put mocha on the ticket without modifying that you only wanted the mocha in the foam under 'Ask Me', so whoever read the ticket couldn't tell if you wanted the mocha in the foam *and* the drink, then didn't bother to ask.

It’s half pumps and the normal amount for a Trenta
ElijahLordoftheWoods8 points9m ago
7 CB pumps in a trenta ain’t that much lol

DragonTear032 points9m ago
That’s less pumps then a grande latte
ElijahLordoftheWoods-1 points9m ago
3.5 regular pumps in 30 oz of liquid is not much. Why are you doubling down?
