Discussing cleanliness (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Tirarthirst
I just tranferred to a new store recently and they don’t clean things very thoroughly. I’m just a barista how do I bring this up to whoever to have like a higher standard of cleanliness.

Just start talking with the other baristas and bring it up as a joke. Point out how funny it is no one can clean properly

Greetings,

This strikes me as a poor method that will not reach anyone. If you truly take issue with something in your job, then you should be direct and concise (respectfully and calmly, of course), not be roundabout and playful about it. Your method also looks a lot worse if you bring up the issue to someone else, yet do not try to do anything about it yourself and it happens to be part of your job description. It is also an effective way to appear arrogant to people, so I implore you to reconsider your method here.

Cheers,

Heya, thanks for the reply!
maybe it’s the energy in our store but approaching in a friendly manner and reinforcing through not picking out one particular person but a vague “partner” has made it easier for people to correct without feeling singled out. It hasn’t appeared ignorant nor arrogant in any of the times it has been done to me, nor have I ever been approached by other baristas/SSVs as appearing as such. In fact I’ve been applauded on my leadership and mentoring skills by ASM, SM, and the DM who are frequently (excluding the latter) on the floor when I approach it this way 🤷 idk it works for our team and our dynamic so thought I’d suggest how our store stays positive through teaching moments
