I’m a transfer at my current store and I’ve been trying to get scheduled for mornings but haven’t been successful. I’ve never had a problem with being scheduled mornings at my last store. Although, at my last store I switched to closing shifts as I preferred closing. My current manager doesn’t want to schedule me mornings despite having asked her to because according to my manager I’m not fast enough for mornings. Yet I’ve had other people tell me otherwise, nor did my last manager ever complain about me being too slow for mornings or in general. My availability is open for mornings until the evening. She of course didn’t schedule me mornings and only scheduled me for mid shifts.I go into maternity leave early next year and when I come back from maternity leave early/mid next year I’ll only be available for morning shifts. What can I do?

In my experience (5 stores over 3.5 years) managers will pretty much tell you anything but the truth.

I’ve noticed that since peak/morning is usually the only time I ever see them on the floor - they almost always schedule partners that they like the most and are efficient workers to work with them.
I’ve also learned never to say anything honest to them about the store bc if they don’t like it they’ll just cut your hours LMAO

I’d recommend calling around and finding out which stores near you are in need of a morning barista. even then unfortunately there’s no guarantee you’ll be scheduled for the mornings. Just gotta get lucky with an SM that’s actually a real human being.

Oh, you can also just change your availability to no later than like 1 pm but that has the risk of you getting scheduled for like maybe one shift a week.

Also just to put this out there - I like the store I’m currently at other than the fact that hours suck because Starbucks over-hires intentionally.
I just popped into the store a few times to see if the baristas seemed to like the store before I applied for a transfer.

Thank you for your insight! It’s very much appreciated and very helpful! How can I tell if the baristas at the other stores like their store? Do I ask them questions or do I just observe them?(in a non creepy way lol) I unfortunately don’t know anyone else who works in the other stores around me or else I would ask them how they like their store.

I kinda just sat in the cafe and observed the atmosphere on bar and how the shifts interacted with the baristas! It’s pretty easy to tel once you watch a bit :) (in a non creepy way of course hahaha)

Thank you! I wish I knew to do this prior to picking my current store. I will do this next time for sure :)

i’m dealing with sort of the same issue…i ask my manager to schedule me with more PM/closing shifts because i’m tired of only getting AM/peak shifts. When I bring it up to her she says she can definitely help me, then lo and behold, when the schedule comes out, it’s either all AM or no shifts💀🤷🏿‍♂️
I pray your manager isn’t as stubborn or annoying as mine.

I changed my availability a bit but I doubt that’s going to change anything. I don’t want to put I’m available only mornings because then I feel like I won’t get scheduled as much. Unfortunately I feel like my manager has it out for me. I hope your situation gets better tho!
