Okay so last week was my first time ever coming late for work. It was because there was traffic and I was 7 minutes late when I walked in the store. I went straight to the ipad to clock in but my SM told me to put on my apron and hat before I did so it took me another 4 minutes to go to the back and do so.

Yesterday, I was 8 minutes over the time I was suppose to clock out so I ran to the back to take off my apron and hat before clocking out. My assistant manager told me I needed to clock out before coming to the back.

Like I can’t clock in without my uniform but I have to clock out before I take it off?? I feel like it should go both ways yk. Maybe I am wrong idk

they want you to leave your “suiting up” time off the clock, which i believe is illegal in places. donning your uniform is part of the job, they shouldn’t be able to require you to do it off-the-clock

during my training week I was taught to clock in as soon as I arrive and then head to the back and get my apron on, and when I’m done with my shift to take off my apron and collect everything and then clock out. so thats just what I’ve been doing. unless I’m close to overtime then I’ll wait until my scheduled time to clock in.

i believe their reasoning is that the apron is “dress code/uniform”. they don’t pay you to get dressed in work appropriate clothing, and in their mind the apron is part of that. i don’t agree with it, but that’s what ive always been told. thankfully my store is super chill so navigating that has been pretty easy since i transferred. i’m sorry they’re putting you through the ringer, i’m sure there are bigger issues to tackle lol
