What's a GOOD thing your manager has done recently?(self.starbucksbaristas)

I don't mean that sarcastically at all--I'm really very grateful to have my manager.
She's only fired one person in my entire year of working there after CONSISTENT issues, the only other person anyone can remember being fired was well over two years ago.
She once came in the back office crying after interviewing a new hire who was a trans high schooler, because her own kid is non-binary and she was just that happy to give this high schooler a safe place to work.
I had my PDC with her the other day, and we literally just spent an hour talking about life stuff, my goals (I'm gonna be a coffee master!), my chronic illness, and having my fellow partners wander into the back office and BS with us between tasks because it was a super slow night anyway, and it was generally just a very nice and almost cozy way to spend my night.
Like, in her own words, my manager would "jump over that counter for her baristas and worry about her job later", and she's fairly universally liked at my store. And she's been rewarded for it as well--she just won store manager of the quarter for our district.
I know she can't be the only good SM out there and this sub tends to be pretty harsh on management (and rightfully so, there are lots of bad managers and lots of reasons to vent), so tell me--what are some good experiences you've had with your managers?

Double bar’d with me AND outdid me! She’s an amazing manager and I love working with her.

!! that's great! My manager will hop on warming/FOH when we get really busy, but I don't think any of us would trust her on bar lmao. She was hired as a manager 5+ so it's just not something she has a ton of practice with

My manager came from barista and worked up. 12 year pattner, 8 years manager

something i just noticed is that she buys good quality pads and tampons for the bathroom in the back. it's such a small thing but all my other workplaces had nothing or just those cheap cardboard ones. also she's just a total sweetheart.
BatWeary3 points9m ago
ours too! she buys the expensive brands! it makes me so happy knowing if i forget a pad i won’t have to settle for a sucky one

Mine also has good pads and tampons in the back for us, and it isn't locked (just in a locker) so if we need it it's there. No questions asked. She replenishes them too.

I had been taking out some trash an hour before my shift, my cat was attempting to get outside while I had the door open so I lost my footing and slipped, I was in major pain but I called and informed the shift I'd try being there still, about 5 minutes later I got a call from my SM who basically said "You know you can just take a day off if you aren't feeling well, right?" I know this is the bare minimum but at the last job I worked I didn't get breaks/lunches and calling in was a death sentence... I'm appreciative to work at Starbucks where they have things like this and even more appreciative to work at my particular store with my SM because she is truly amazing

My SM is very loved at my store!! We used to have a manager that was not as caring about the staff or even the store, so having a manager now that does so much to make things better for us has really made a difference. She has changed a lot of things at our store (with the help of all partners cooperating and giving ideas as well) and things have been much better.
Binx_da_gay_cat3 points9m ago
I swear asking partners for improvements makes a difference. Not trying to fix a particular thing that may not be a real problem.
Our manager asked for suggestions when she came in. It was the little things that changed - but those little things made a difference.
Fast_Town99572 points9m ago
yes exactly! And also thoroughly explaining changes to everyone so people understand why those changes are important!!

She showed up the other day. Stayed almost an hour too. Pretty cool

Every experience I have with my SM is a great one honestly. She’s an incredible leader, one of the kindest people I’ve ever met, and is a big goof ball at the right times. She’s on the floor with us for peak where ever we need her and she supports us in every way. I probably wouldn’t be a ssv if it wasn’t for her

My first store manager paid out of pocket to monogram a green apron for every partner at my store the first Christmas I worked for Starbucks. I still feel like 10% more competent in that apron 🙂

My SM consistently works as a barista on the floor and we have so much fun he has us all cackling all of the time. He’s absolutely amazing at his job both on the floor and as a manager. I feel so fortunate to have such an understanding and normal person as my manager lmao
BatWeary3 points9m ago
mine will make us homemade snacks! she brought in chips & salsa a few days ago. she also sent flowers on behalf of the store for one of our shifts after they had a family member pass. i believe she also gave their family a food gift card with $100 on it

My current manager is the best one I’ve had so far. She does bake offs with my other co-workers and working on the floor 4/5 days she works (the off floor day being when she literally has zoom meetings which she does in the back room). She has offered to bring me and my family dinner and groceries when we all had Covid. She is super flexible with schedule changes for all of us partners (majority of our staff are collage students, so every semester schedule change or some students transfer back home). My manager is a constant in the whirlwind of Starbucks shortages and changes.

Not my current manager but my original one. We are close in age and we got hired kinda close to each other, so we were learning to make things around the same time. He always had my back whenever a cust would try to throw hands verbally towards me and while he wasn’t loved by everyone I thought he was great. We’re still friends after working together for two years and even after I moved on and came back to a different store. I even asked him for help last week one night bc no one knew how to make cold brew at my store (and my manager wasn’t there).
