Why is it so hard to make the same drink every time? (self.starbucksbaristas)

if the drink is wrong you can request for it to be remade free of charge. all fast food chains have a high rate of turnover, causing new employees to lack proper training. if you are dissatisfied with your drink, just ask the baristas at your location rather than posting on reddit.

Also this sub is for current and former partners. This post better fits r/starbucks

Edit: Also we dont have salted caramel drizzle. The Salted Caramel Cream Cold Brew comes with vanilla syrup (for a grande it is 2) cold brew, ice, and Salted Caramel Cold Foam. You can ask for regular drizzle but we don't have salted drizzle. At least, in the US.
gothlene 38 points 9m ago
We don't even have salted caramel drizzle tf are you on
ProfessionalRock7940 22 points 9m ago
Maybe you should know what drink you're actually ordering and go to the right sub 💁

Salted caramel cream cold brew doesnt come with salted caramel drizzle on top. We dont even carry salted caramel drizzle. We have caramel drizzle tho but that still doesnt come with the cold brew. For a grande, it just gets 2 pumps of vanilla syrup in the cold brew and then the cold foam gets 2 little sea salt packets and caramel syrup in the foam. And the foam is already sweet itself without the add ins since the sweet cream used for the foam is made with 2% milk and heavy cream and vanilla syrup. So if the foam is nice and fluffed and thicker, it was made right. If its droops down into the drink quickly, it was made wrong. But it doesnt come with any drizzle.

If its wrong most of the time, its cuz customers like u who get drinks incorrectly made or not to their liking, they never say anything about it to the employees for it to be fixed/remade so of course theres not guna be a change and theyre guna keep making it the same way. U have to say something if u dont like it or think its wrong...otherwise theyre guna keep making it the same way and ur guna keep going to get it and it will stay like that

I understand your confusion since you’ve never been a Barista. Maybe this will help:

There are *so* many variables at play here.
Most fast-food is *prepackaged*, and mass produced in a factory, by machines and robots. (Aka—your favorite burgers)

Coffee from Starbucks is *CREATED ON SITE FOR YOU BY BARISTAS*.
Baristas are only as good as their *trainers*, and their *memory*.

For example—
We make our own sweet cream (the base of the salted cold-foam) IN THE STORE. There is no standard recipe *posted* anywhere in the store for this base.

Which means Baristas are relying on (a) their trainer’s knowledge of the sweet-cream recipe when they originally taught them

(b) their own memory of the sweet-cream recipe in order to make it.

The Sweet-cream is also not scientific. There is no machine that auto-pours and auto-weighs EXACTLY the right amount of vanilla to make the sweet-cream. Baristas have to *free-pour* the vanilla syrups, cream, and milk to make the sweet-cream, which means the barista’s PHYSICAL DEXTERITY goes into the equation.

When the sweet-cream is made wrong (by having ever-so slightly too much 2% milk, or ever so slightly too much vanilla) It won’t foam properly no matter what the barista does to it. It will then *mix into the coffee*, instead of staying nicely on top.

We are chronically systematically understaffed on purpose by corporate, who wants to stay in business by remaining profitable more than they want to staff the stores. Which means once the sweet-cream base is made—we don’t have time or man-power to make more. Aka—we just have to use it even if it is wrong.

Lastly, there are no drink-cards at every station reminding Baristas the proper way to make the drinks, (because there are quite simply too many of them. Our store has a BOOK of recipes which I study on my breaks because I want to make the coffees correctly) At fast-food restaurants there are food-recipe cards at every fast-food store telling the cooks how to make the foods, because they have a much smaller menu. Baristas have to *RELY ON OUR MEMORIES*, for each of the hundreds of drinks and variations of drinks that we have in the store.
Which means—some Baristas think that Salted Caramel cold brew comes with vanilla in the base coffee, *LIKE ALL THE OTHER COLD-BREWS DO*. Salted Caramel cold-brew is the exception to the cold-brew vanilla rule, but most Baristas don’t know this.

Edit: *case-en-point*: apparently they also changed the recipe since I started working, and now the salted cold-brew *IS* supposed to have vanilla in the actual cold-brew. 😵‍💫

So, as you can see—there are a *huge* number of variables as to why your drink comes out differently every time.

The base answer is: STARBUCKS ISN’T FAST FOOD. We make your coffee fast as we can, but it isn’t mass-produced and mass-standardized pre-packaged garbage, it’s art being made individually for you in a hurry.

You mentioned this problem being a Starbucks problem with management—perhaps. *But, conversely— the problem with Starbucks customers is that they don’t understand the difference between fast-food and art.* I get it—America is a Fast-food nation, and it is counter-cultural to have ANY food business in the USA that isn’t mass-produced, so I understand your confusion.

Consistency = factory-made. Individually-crafted = variation. Period.

If you want drink-consistently, either get something mass-produced from a fast-food restaurant or buy one of Starbucks mass-produced bottled drinks.

Hey you may want to edit - salted caramel cold brew def comes with vanilla, you can see that on the Starbucks app, otherwise 10/10.
Vegan_Sweetie 0 points 9m ago
Then they must have changed the recipe *again* since I started working, when I was taught in no uncertain terms *not to put vanilla in the salted cold-brew*

Bless y’all for going to argue the finer points of this f*ckboi who doesn’t even belong, but no one has pointed out that the initial premise is flawed: have y’all been to a fast food place on the regular?? It is NOT the same every time, no where…not one chain, or even location gets my order right every time. Top offenders: Taco Bell and Jack and the Box, but even places like In N Out, or Chipotle, it’s a crapshoot whether I’m getting too much or too little, or not wrapped well, and the number of times I’ve said NO MAYO or NO SOUR CREAM, and that shit is STILL ON THERE…Lord in heaven 🤦🏽‍♂️

If you have such a problem, communicate whats wrong until you like what you order and order that instead. Other than just dont go and support a local business. No one is stopping you or telling you to come. And especially complain without communicating why

Have you noticed that you always complained? Maybe you’re the problem lmao

And just as I expected a bunch of triggered employees. SMH. I’m so sorry my drinks are perfect every time and I’m just complaining for no reason. God this place is trash!
Bluebilledduck 18 points 9m ago
This reddit is for baristas. Ask for it to be remade if its not right, its really not that difficult 🤷‍♀️
badatlife15 10 points 9m ago
You literally don’t know what you’re ordering, there is no such thing as salted caramel drizzle. And the salted caramel cold foam cold brew doesn’t come with any caramel drizzle unless you ask for it. If you’re a Starbucks employee you would KNOW this and if you don’t then you’re part of the damn problem. It shouldn’t come with any cream unless you ask for it, so that part is wrong on the place you got it from, but if you actually worked at Starbucks you would know most of the time managers are nowhere to be seen and aren’t sitting inspecting each drink that goes out. You’re mad about triggering employees but this is a sub specifically for baristas not whiny cuntsomers.

Edited typo & added words for clarity

Nobody is saying drinks are perfect all the time. But its that u said most of the times, ur drinks are made weird or wrong or not to ur liking but u also said u keep going back hoping u can once again get it made like a few other times when u got it made correctly. But how can u hope for that if ur not letting them kno the issue? U have to let them kno because if u dont say anything and u keep going back and just only hoping for the correct drink, then ur not guna get anywhere with that because how can they fix something when they dont kno it even exists as an issue?

U said "triggered employees" ....when this is a sub for just employees. But i didnt kno that employees giving advice or suggestions to someone who clearly posted with inquiries means that we're triggered lol ok

If you read my comment, I explain the reason, while *hopefully* being as respectful as I can. ❤️
