Main character syndrome (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by coffee-and-chillll
After a wild Sunday shift, just wanted to vent here and say that many customers truly think they’re the main character. Idk how they behave at other places, but here it’s like their drinks and food, and wants and needs, their time, are the stars of this sh**show. I get that they want their items they paid for, but when they see 5 people behind the counter literally running around wouldn’t ya think they’d stop themselves before asking where their mobile order is, or for an iced water, or a side of cream and expecting it *immediately*? Gotta LOVE those who ask for iced water when I’m far behind on drinks and they’re messing up any chance I had to catch up, and how they stare as I get them their iced water as if I don’t have anything I need to be doing and I’m expected to drop everything I’m doing for them. Can’t get iced water anywhere else apparently? Sure, I’m running around trying to do 5 things rn but I’ll totally drop what I’m doing to get you your short cup of cream and an iced water and then the customer after you can approach me frantically about a mobile order so I forget what drinks I was even working on

I know I have a different perspective because I work here, but I’d like to think if I went into any establishment and placed my order I’d know to wait and be an adult. Idk what happened over time, maybe because of mobile orders, but it’s like people *cannot wait*. We’re all RUNNING back here. Any idea of how many orders we’ve got rn?? It’s coming from all angles: cafe, mobile, delivery, and drive thru so I’m sorry if your mobile ordered blonde roast is taking some time and isn’t ready the moment you set your foot in the store. It’s like they become toddlers the moment they walk in, and I truly do not understand why. The worst part is it feels like we have to encourage this behavior, always going as fast as possible in an exceptionally stressful environment for them. It’s rewarding bad behavior, but that’s not on us

I just wish they could all hop behind the counter, try it for a few mins, then maybe they’d be more understanding. I always try to provide a kind, welcoming, and positive experience for customers but grown adults who think they’re the star of the show while we’re drowning in orders are something else. Look at the packed cafe and drive thru line buddy, guess what? Surprise!! YOU’RE GONNA HAVE TO WAIT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, READ THE ROOM

Also side note: Partners who are on window and come over to wait for me to finish drive thru drinks stress me tf out. I know y’all are rushing because the customer is waiting and you don’t wanna hangout with them at the window, but please don’t stand right next to me and watch my every move. It’s incredibly stressful, especially standing right next to me and on the search for that specific drink. It didn’t disappear, it’s coming. Trust me I’m going as fast as I can to make the 1,000th pumpkin cold foam order of the day, while managing hot and cold bar simultaneously

Sorry for the rant, Sundays are a special kind of wild y’all

Lol i dont even compare them to toddlers or children anymore because children that come to my store always act more decent. As in all the screaming raging impatient rude upset customers I've had have all been grown ass adults.

There's a guy who usually orders from my store a couple times a week and he gets its tall mocha. The one time he came in and he was waiting for a few minutes and didn't see his order there so he came up to me on bar and he asked me about it and I told him I don't see it yet and then he grabbed his phone to check to see where he sent it and it was to another store 5 minutes down the road and my sister did I just told him that we can make it for free so I told him I will be able to start on in a few minutes or so because we're so backed up on orders and he waited not even 5 minutes and just ended up angrily walking out. Like u are told that u are guna get something on the house since u placed ur order to another store. Were making it more convenient for u so u dont have to pay twice or run around to another store and ur guna get mad even tho the entire cafe is jam packed like a tin can of sardines? Lol i was like ok lol☺️

I wish I was surprised by this behavior, sadly I’m not lol. Basically it’s like if their stuff isn’t ready the moment they reach the counter they’re gonna be upset, even if we’re helping them out :/

Yea i had a couple people like that today! Literally ordered at the register and would go wait at the hand off area and the next drink that i put out would be a mobile order (im a cafe/mobile store) so then they would stare at me all confused and go to the mobile pickup drinks and look at them as if they didnt hear me say a different name and the word mobile. Like hello obviously i was working on another drink and a few more while u were in the process of ordering so dont be confused that ur drink isnt the first one out right when u go to wait at the hand off area 😑

Ughhhh *those* customers are exactly what I was referring to in my post. They come in and order and think their order is the star of the show. I just wanna be like “your order is NOT the only one in the queue, it’s actually one of many and until I call your name please simply wait”. I think they don’t seem to understand that just because they just ordered, it doesn’t mean we’re immediately working on their order. There’s drive thru, mobiles, and delivery orders along with cafe, and we do our best to balance 4 channels of orders 🥴

Yea lol like while theyre ordering at the register, what do they think im doing behind the counter? Im making drinks. So why in the world would they think their drink is guna be the next one to come out? Do they think im just waiting behind the counter and stop all drink production until they order and then i work on theirs right away? Lol its just mind boggling as to what drives them to assume that shit lol
