My store doesn’t really get a lot of ppl trying to scam us for extra drinks but today a group of tourists come in and sit down. There are 5 of them and only 3 order drinks. I finish making them and about a minute later one of them comes up to the bar and tells me she wanted her drink without whip cream and there’s whip. I made this, I remember NOT putting whip so I offer to add more steamed milk (lol I already had a feeling) and she gets upset and says no, so I ask to see the label, grab the cup from her and offer to remake it “oh, you are the sweetest! Thank you so much honey!” And then I proceed to dump the drink in the sink and her whole demeanor changes to “what is wrong with you?! Why would you do that?” My manager is bar with me so he tells her it’s protocol and she walks away salty with her single drink and her whole group glares at me for the next 30 minutes I wonder why 😂😂

i just do not understand where the logic is when customers do this - if you *didn't like it* and you *want it remade* why would you *keep* the bad one?!
Responsible_Snow710940 points9m ago
Lol yes and a lot of them use the excuse "i can give it to my mom or friend" or whoever. But then theyre guna have to pay for it ☺️ since they wana take a perfectly good drinkable drink without any contaminants or foreign objects in it lol

I don't mind letting them keep the mess ups every now and then AS LONG AS they are respectable and nice. You come up to me expecting free shit or giving off Karen vibes your ass leaving with the one drink 😂😭

I gladly give away mess ups to people. Just only if you’re nice. It is the way

for these types of people i like to dump their drinks for fun. other times like if they’re in the drive thru i offer it to the next person if the first guest didn’t touch the drink lol
Mickey_Fan517 points9m ago
I only do that if a customer is nice to me or when I know I messed up the drink.
darkwolf5234 points9m ago
OP is my spirit animal…or spirit human? I do the same
transluciiiid4 points9m ago
i only ask if they want to keep it for someone else if something was added that they don’t like/i can tell they aren’t trying to scam.
if it feels like a scam i just dump it.
we also get it with food. mostly with « i didnt want this heated » so ill go to take the other pastry and theyre like uhm no ill still eat it! like ok. u arent getting another one then

I’m curious if it was the other way around and a barista genuinely messed up, is it wrong for the customer to ask to keep it and get a remake?
im_a_pimp28 points9m ago
why would they want to keep a drink that was wrong enough that they requested a remake?
duderancherooni5 points9m ago
That’s an offer only situation up to the barista’s discretion. I don’t think its right to ask.

every time i messed up i remade it and let them keep it, they would give it to someone
