inconsiderate manager? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Asleep_Muscle_7990
I’m a shift supervisor at my store and been a partner for two years. Just until recently I have had open availability and worked 40 hours even when I had classes. Recently I’ve been falling behind w school because of how much I work so for this semester I told my manager I want maximum 25 hours. We’re losing one of our night shifts and getting a new one but they have to be trained. Tell me why my manager said, “I can’t guarantee when they’re in the process of being trained you’ll get less than 30 hours.” I just stared at her and thought, “You have a full shift team who can work 40 hours. I’m the only one who want part time hours.” I was going to speak to her about it bc if I have a certain availability that I have for school it should be followed, this is not the first time she has gone out of my availability. Just because I’m a shift is it required of me to work outside my availability? I told her before that it’s only limited for school but during the summer I can go back to full time. What should I do?

I don’t know at Starbucks because I wasn’t a shift there but I was a shift at two other similar type companies and both required minimum 30 hours a week.

I was told it needed to be open for all because it wouldn’t be fair for other shifts who would be open when one isn’t and would seem like favoritism.
