Blending standards (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by she_who_walks
We’re having a discussion at my store: someone claimed that if people ask for a beverage to be blended that standard is NOT blended, we are still supposed to be adding crème base to it. So for example, if they order a pink drink blended, I should add crème base regardless if they ask for it or not. I’ve always thought you were not to add it unless it was requested. I can’t find any communication clarifying this or not and I’m curious if anyone has a concrete answer….

You’re correct. No crème base should be added because by doing so, you change the nutritional profile of the beverage. Coach your manager and let them know that adding crème base will change the nutritional values of the beverage than of what Starbucks has online.

That’s exactly what I thought. If people ASK for it to be added, ok cool, but it shouldn’t be added as standard. I asked to verify because some people were saying it was in a weekly update or communication or something and I wanted to be sure I didn’t miss something

always ask! the customer could have an allergy or dietary restriction. or maybe they just want a really watery drink, you never know.
Responsible_Snow7109 16 points 9m ago
Yep agreed! And its also sweet so maybe a customer doesnt want that added extra sweetener when the drink doesnt come with it

Additionally, there's no way to ring in and account for frap base in these blended/double-blended drinks. For inventory purposes-to account for that base-if someone requests base be added to something blended, you have to ring as a frap or blended lemonade and modify from there.

No, adding the base would make it very sweet. The only reason why fraps are tolerable with the base is because the drink is mostly ice with little frap roast and milk—and other scoops of inclusions.

Edit: ur store seems like they like to make up rules.

Dude you have nooooo idea 😂😂 I’m an SSV and I get pushback from other SSVs because they like to make up “standards and rules” that are specific to how THEY like things. Its super frustrating because some of this stuff is NOT standard and does NOT matter but I have to be able to defend myself and show the concrete Starbucks rules on things or else I get brushed aside. It’s aggravating.

Honestly, f the standards. If I find a way that is easier, gets the job done and taste the same, ima do it that way.
she_who_walks [OP] 8 points 9m ago
Hahaha we would get along well😂 certain standards matter (are you making the drink correctly, like does it actually taste good?! Ok then!!) But some of this stuff DOES. NOT. MATTER. And people need to calm the heck down about it. You can not tell me that you can taste the difference if I double batch your caramel frapps😑 Some of this crap is just a power trip and I have shifts that really really feel the need to boss people around about things. If it’s not gonna affect beverage quality or customer experience, shut up about it and let me work!
Necessary_Low939 6 points 9m ago
Haha yeah! Bro I get told that it changes the taste if I add ice first instead of the frap roast and milk for a frap. I foam blend my matchas because it produces min foam and all powder are blended nicely. And so on. People need to relax.

So I have always added the base because I'm like ooh it makes the texture better!
And then yesterday I realized what I was doing because I'm trying to cut down on my sugar intake and almost got a blended americano just for like a different texture but then realized that we all put the base in which has a shit ton of sugar!
she_who_walks [OP] 4 points 9m ago
Oh I agree, it makes the texture WAY better and it’s way easier to pour! I tend to ask because I feel like people want that smoother texture… I just wish they’d give stuff like that a stated standard so we’re all on the same page

I actually didn’t know you weren’t supposed to! A shift supervisor told me I should, but to be fair Starbucks doesn’t make this clear and I was always told that blending without base will screw up the blades.
Torirock10 6 points 9m ago
yeah the ppl at my store say the same thing but i swear it isn’t true. idk where to find info on the ipads though
Elegant-Wrongdoer942 2 points 9m ago
same
floofxs2 2 points 9m ago
I never do unless they ask, I’ve had some baristas recommend it and the person say yes or no, but no I don’t add things to people’s drinks that don’t belong in them (only when requested).

i think for any frapp if they ask for no base, u have to put at least 1 pump anyways, to not fuck up the blender. I always say fuck that tho and make the moment right and not blend with any syrup 😂 shit is CRUMCNHYY !!

if a non standard blended drink gets blended, you don’t put anything in there. they didn’t pay for it and they didn’t ask for it. it would also change the amount of sugar in the drink like ten fold.

like for an iced vanilla latte blended, you wouldn’t put base in it because it already has vanilla syrup in it .

for blended pink drink you also wouldn’t put anything.

mind you non standard blended drinks were literally NOT a thing up until tiktok trends sooo corporate is still figuring it out i’m guessing. they should just make a simple syrup for those kinds of drinks specifically, like basically just xantham gum syrup. no flavor no sugar just the binding agent.
but then it would feel more like chemistry class haha

Honestly I’m general it’s too liquidy to add base you’d have to add a ton of ice to be able to have the base be necessary
dndpls777 1 points 9m ago
How would they know
SmittyComic 2 points 9m ago
they're gonna know.
dndpls777 1 points 9m ago
oh my god
Vegan_Sweetie 1 points 9m ago
Ok, so I was taught we are supposed to add one pump of créme frap base because their drinks will separate if we don’t, and also it won’t come out of the blender into their cup if we don’t add it.

No idea if that is standard or non-standard though. 😬
she_who_walks [OP] 1 points 9m ago
It does pour way easier and makes the consistency easier to sip, but it’s definitely NOT a standard…
