It’s okay. You’re SICK. The store will be fine, it’s just coffee. Take care of yourself <3
From a very tired shift :)

THIS, seconded. You’re sick, it’s just coffee, don’t sweat it. Your health is way more important. <3

I been working at my store month and I was vomiting all night and I had call off I felt so guilty and I’m off today so I feel weird going back Thursday like they gonna be mad at me
biggestsaddest28 points9m ago
Calling in sick when you're actually sick feels illegal at Starbucks, but they can't actually get angry with you. There will be no disciplinary action, everything is okay. Remember your rights as an employee, and stand up for yourself. If they even try to write you up, go over your manager's head until you find someone who will take action

See this isn’t even my manger I’m traveling barista until my store opens and I’m about not even work at the store I’m currently at cause i have opportunity stay at one store until mine opens

According to the Partner Guide page 27 “In the event of an unplanned absence, e.g., the sudden onset of illness, injury, or emergency, or when the partner is using paid sick leave allowable by law, the partner will not be held responsible for finding a substitute. The partner is still responsible for notifying the store manager or assistant store manager (or partner leading the shift bid the manager is not in the store) of the absence prior to the beginning of the shift so coverage can be arranged if needed.”
Also, according to the Partner Guide page 54 “A partner who misses more than three consecutive days of work may be eligible for leave of absence and/or Short Term Disability benefits…” and “Protected Sick Time (PST) is job-protected and is not included doe consideration in any absence policy.”
In other words: you are NOT responsible for finding coverage, nor is the other person (they did their part). You cannot be reprimanded for this.

No, tell them you’re not going in. If you have sick hours use them. If you want to get a doctor’s note that’s up to you. Call ethics.
heyitsmaria2434 points9m ago
Going to work vomiting is a FDA’s Food Code guideline violation due to vomiting being a foodborne illness. You can report this to the DM or ethics if the manager is still giving you a hard time about it. Either way, you’re allowed to call in sick and put yourself first. Starbucks is not worth the pain.
malletgirl9119 points9m ago
Get that in writing and report it to the health inspector. It is against food safety regulations to go to work with those symptoms.

Go in and throw up on the bar
/s I just posted about how you shouldn't go in
verdeuce9 points9m ago
Find out who your district manager is and tell them
BlackberryOpposite3117 points9m ago
Since you took the shift you are responsible for it so the person who originally had it would not have to go into work. Additionally, it is not your responsibility to find coverage if you do call out sick (which you should because you should not work around food if you have been vomiting). If you use protected sick time you cannot be fired for it.
elrobolobo13 points9m ago
If they give you grief you can go in and throw-up
CoffeeChesirecat13 points9m ago
Use your protected sick hours! Take care of yourself. You can't work under those conditions anyway, but they can't fire or reprimand you if you use sick time.
Vegetable_Emu_713 points9m ago
how do you use those or accumulate them
CoffeeChesirecat1 points9m ago
You accumulate them with time. I don't know the rate of which, but you can find the number you have on your paystub. You accrue those right away I think, but vacation time starts after one year. To use your time, you go into the punch communication log in the big book your store uses (soon it'll just be my daily on the iPad though). There you will find a date range. Write in your name, numbers, # of sick hours you are using there.
MentalHealthSucksAss10 points9m ago
I don’t understand the question. If you truly are sick as you say, then you are required to call off.
Next_Resolution_38895 points9m ago
I’m late to the party but I wanted to add, your health and the health of your customers is way more important than coverage. The store will survive. I’ve worked through shifts when 2-4 people have called out or not shown. Coverage will be arranged and even if they can’t find anyone, they will be fine. Take care of yourself and make sure to stay hydrated!
mama_bibi4 points9m ago
Listen I picked up a shift for another supervisors bday and the day before when I got home from work I felt really sick and started getting a fever. I didn't call out and went in the next day cause I felt bad and didn't want them to have to scramble for an opening shift the night before and I didnt want the guy to have to work his bday.
I wore a mask but I had a really bad feeling I had covid because I had it once before and it felt really similar to how I was feeling. I worked most the shift until I realized how dumb I was being ,not just cause of covid, but also cause like this is MY HEALTH.
THIS IS YOUR HEALTH.
Anyway. I had covid. Luckily no one got sick cause of me but I felt like a jerk for working sick.
Just stay home. Fuck it. They will figure it out and if anyone gets mad at you...they'll live. Take care of yourself first.
Torirock103 points9m ago
they’ll find someone else
fruit_enjoyer2 points9m ago
Stay home, starbucks will never ever matter that much. Get better soon!
nonogender2 points9m ago
if i was the shift at your store i would immediately tell you to stay home and take the consequences myself. that's what i always did at my store, no matter how my manager reacted. it is the LAW that you stay home if you have thrown up (at least in the US)
lewabwee-5 points9m ago
If you switched on teamworks they won’t be held liable. If you didn’t they will. You literally can’t go to work though.
