This sounds reasonable and how it should be but I don't think my SM sees it that way 🙃 I don't know of any baristas other than me and the other regular opener, who started around the same time as me, who have been shown how to open, but my SM very intentionally scheduled us each 1 shift to be trained on how to open before we started working those hours on a regular basis. I just can't see my SM letting someone who hasn't done it before take the shift unless it was urgent, like if I was sick or no showed
I do know that 1 other barista is being trained to open this week which is helpful
It is interesting though, I have taken pre-closing and closing shifts for other people when I hadn't been trained on how to do it with no issue. But I think they are just different types of shifts. Like, if you don't show up on time and do your opening tasks efficiently, it can really throw off the whole morning. Whereas if you're a new closer and it takes you 30 minutes longer than it should to do closing tasks, that sucks but what needs to get done still gets done without it affecting customers and the additional time doesn't cost the store much and isn't an issue if it doesn't happen frequently. And also with closing, depending on how busy it is, the shift and other baristas can help teach you certain things
