Safety Help Advice Needed (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by anon_is_no_con
This has been an ongoing problem for my store as of the last month, but it really escalated tonight and I need advice or resources asap. My female partners (myself included), more specifically closing crew, aren’t safe. Our concerns have been brushed over a multitude of times and had become a ‘wait until something actually happens’ scenario, well tonight I had to call the cops and file a police report. Their excuse for lack of safety or care towards this has been the changing of our store managers over the past year. Our new store manager finally notified the ‘higher ups’ about the problem, after tonight, but i highly doubt there will be any changes in the near future. I work with teenagers, am a young woman myself, and I do not think tonight was the last of this. Please if you have any resources or advice i’d love to hear, I just want my coworkers safe.

ethics and compliance. your SM should’ve done something the MOMENT any of you feared anything to do with work. report. report. report. or go to your DM

Our SM is completely new, so she’s seeing like the bare scraps of what the shifts who do not care are telling her. Thank you for the advice, i’ll check out ethics and compliance!

hey! my store’s closing team of majority young women have had several incidents that have left us all feeling not very safe. something that has to happen every single time no matter what is the filing of an incident report. your dm will get all of the report and although it doesn’t mean there will be immediate change there will be a paper trail and your sm will feel more pressure to act

also, i know it is against policy but carrying self defense tools is important (pepper spray, stun guns, etc). we have partners that have their family members come and wait for them at closing. it is so frustrating to feel powerless when there are dangerous situations but we all just have to do what we can

it’s gotten to the point where i bring in a baseball to every closing shift i go to, filing an i identify report has been really difficult because i haven’t been able to get ahold of a shift that takes it seriously except for the one i close with. my dad came and got me after last nights incident, but i do plan on taking it further within the store.

with your new sm that has finally brought it to your dm’s attention, do you feel like they would advocate for you and the other closers? because 100% it does not matter what the incident is a report needs to get filed. it does not matter if they take it seriously or not if you or any other closer or anyone in the store period is feeling unsafe it is their responsibility to listen to y’all and act. i am so sorry that is your stores
response and i truly hope they get it together soon
