“Go do the dishes and then take your 10” 🙃(i.redd.it)

Let me preface this with saying I don’t mind at all doing dishes. I actually like it a lot bc then I know they’re done and can help partners with backups and such. But I was on dto (my fave spot) for the first few hours of my shift and was waiting for a 10 (my only break today) and this is what happened. I asked my shift if it was a lot and she went “ummm…” and I just took a look myself. I just think personally maybe I should have taken the 10 and then busted out all these dishes.
cris-topher98 points9m ago
Don’t be afraid to ask your shift if you can take a ten first cause that’s absurd
bitternpc12 points9m ago
Yes.
imathrowayslc9 points9m ago
I would have taken the 10 first and done them. I love dishes so that would almost be an extended break. Side note my love for doing dishes does not follow me home 😭.
mewwissa67 points9m ago
I would’ve just started them by rinsing and getting them soaking, and then sanitized n put them in Hobart after your ten. If someone needs something that badly, they can just pull it from the soapy water and dunk it in sanitizer
dnims24 [OP]47 points9m ago
Yeah I thought about doing something like that but the shift I was working with is kind of a stickler for doing things then and there (even tho she rarely does anything besides “put the order away”)
MrsClaireUnderwood16 points9m ago
Are you a partner at my store working with one of my shifts? 😂
dnims24 [OP]8 points9m ago
Haha who knows 😂
imathrowayslc2 points9m ago
I asked this on Reddit once and they were lol.

> I would’ve just started them by rinsing and getting them soaking, and then sanitized n put them in Hobart
Yep, that's why on CS I'm always soaking dishes and starting soap/sani, it'll make things easier, even if I can't get them done before the next shift/person comes on.
Torirock1050 points9m ago
what the fawwwwk that 10 is gonna be in 70 years
dnims24 [OP]9 points9m ago
I’m wheezing 😂
Garrickrelentless23 points9m ago
The worst is when you come back and they're like "that was a long ten..." 🥹
BatWeary8 points9m ago
like no shit, you gave me an entire days worth of dishes to do before
ashley092722 points9m ago
Am I the only weird one here that loves doing dishes and I would be completely happy with this.
dnims24 [OP]19 points9m ago
Haha I really like doing them too but I was just shocked she wanted it before my break and not after
laughingashley5 points9m ago
No customers yell at you back here lollll
OliviaPooPoo17 points9m ago
I feel like some people do dishes as if they’re on a ten, so I personally don’t see it as annoying. It’s a break from dealing with customers. Most my baristas would kill to just be in the back washing dishes, even if it’s a lot.
EnvironmentalArt498816 points9m ago
I love doing the dishes but I think that load right there would be my 13th reason tbh
KnOOll1 points9m ago
lol
Gameb0i611 points9m ago
Hello would love this. That’s be like a paid 30 minute break right there.
morriganandmilla5 points9m ago
Theres no way I could ask someone to do all that before a ten. I might ask someone to do a load or two but not the whole pile.
Praxlyn5 points9m ago
im ngl, id kill for this. to me washing dishes, and CS in general is like a continuous break, once you get the heavy shit out of the way (ice, restocking milks, lids) its quite literally just cleaning and dishes and not talking to customers idk I just love it
lewabwee5 points9m ago
This is a really weird and not cool request.
Personally, I’d be pretty happy to know that the rest of my shift could be spent in the back. If she asked me to come up and take over for someone I’d just say I hadn’t got my ten yet because there’s so many dishes!
But don’t get me wrong, my pettiness and preference for never being on the floor doesn’t make it okay.
dnims24 [OP]4 points9m ago
Yeah it was pretty surprising she didn’t want me to take the break first but whatevs 🤷🏻♀️
Hazel_is_Trans4 points9m ago
When back of house looks like this and it takes me 30 mins to do then I get yelled at fun🙃
psionicillusionist3 points9m ago
Twf the manager asks why you still haven't taken your 10 and it's all you can do just to gesture wildly at the dishes like *how* did you expect this to be done any sooner??
Nraveles113 points9m ago
If you tell me to do the dishes, I’m chillin in the back with em 💅
If my SM isn’t there whoever is doing dishes usually just listens to music a bit lol and it’s a vibe
ShannyES3 points9m ago
Take that ten. Then tackle. Eff that.
Lucius_Ds2 points9m ago
Well least we try to keep the dishes going
valumptuoushippo2 points9m ago
I literally enjoy doing dishes so much this looks great
Sad_Artist82532 points9m ago
Throw as much dishes as you can in the Hobart and let the rest soak than take your ten

As a shift, i would’ve preferred you asked to take your ten first so you weren’t dreading it the entire time and come back with a shitty attitude. I personally would rather finish the work and take my break first. Besides, dishes are a break from dto. You can take your headset off and think for a second.
dnims24 [OP]6 points9m ago
I wasn’t exactly dreading it but was a little overwhelmed when I first saw the pile of dishes and didn’t even know where to start. Obviously I finally just grabbed one and started going. Also I just want to say I could never have an attitude with a shift. No matter what I’m feeling on the inside, I have been trained to always be polite and respectful.
PutSimple31344 points9m ago
I guess what I’m saying is, as a shift it’s my job to keep the energy light. If i had known that taking your ten first was more practical and comfortable for you, then i would’ve been perfectly okay with you doing that. Everyone is happy in the end. I think you can totally express those feelings to your shift and they will learn your preferences. I have partners that prefer earlier tens, some that prefer them to be pushed out, some that i can just tell need a break. There is a lot of flexibility, it’s all about communicating on the floor. 💚
dnims24 [OP]4 points9m ago
You’re right in that I need to learn to speak up for myself. It’s something I’ve always struggled with and I actually just had a meetup (I forget the term) with my manager where I let her know about it as well
PutSimple31342 points9m ago
That’s great!! You’re already taking huge steps speaking up for yourself. 💚
