how do you do cold brew at stores without a tap? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Torirock10
I know it’s in a pitcher but like is it still brewed in the toddy things ? or do you have to do it from concentrate or smth?

We have this brew thing that brews concentrate - not really sure what it’s formally called LOL. Concentrate goes to the first line, water up to the top line.

so u don’t grind the cold brew and put it in the toddy? ty for letting me know cuz i was arguing with someone on insta abt it
vareenoo 10 points 9m ago
We do grind it and put water in this box thing and it seeps out the concentrate idk how to explain it lol
Torirock10 [OP] 14 points 9m ago
yeah ik wym. idk they’re like “the tap brews the coffee. so cold brew from a tap isnt the same as cold brew from the pitcher” and i’m like bruh they’re the same they taste the same
happyprince22 18 points 9m ago
do they mean the tap that has nitro? like with the kegs? bc that doesn’t brew anything, it’s just measured out cold brew concentrate with water and nitrogen infused. cold brew from anything else isn’t from a tap, but it does taste different from pitcher or straight from the brewer since that should be uncut cold brew
Markedsoultheif 8 points 9m ago
The tap does not brew the coffee. That’s why we have to make the kegs. The fuck is that person smoking?
vareenoo 6 points 9m ago
Oh no yeah they’re the same, just we get the concentrate in pitchers!! So they’re wrong lol
bunnysbigcookie 3 points 9m ago
yeah no the tap doesn’t do anything except dispenses cold brew or infused with nitrogen if from the nitro tap. the brewing is all in the toddy.
Vegan_Sweetie 3 points 9m ago
Some stores still use Toddys. Our store still has one for emergencies/backup.
bunnylo 13 points 9m ago
cold brew regardless of a store that has a tap or not is all made the same. you grind up the bag, put it in the toddy with the filter, let it steep until the following day.

if a store doesn’t have it on tap, it still has to be cut with water, versus when it’s on tap and you make up kegs, it’s cut before the keg is sealed.
darkwolf523 8 points 9m ago
We got both the tap and pitchers. Ngl I use the pitchers more than the tap mainly because we sell a lot of cold brew. Nitro, sometimes but ours doesn’t want to function properly
jelizt 2 points 9m ago
That’s interesting we only do pitchers if the tap isn’t working.
Tabbystripes102 4 points 9m ago
We do it from pitchers as concentrate according to the recipe cards for concentrate since we're a tiny licensed with no room for tap
Torirock10 [OP] 1 points 9m ago
understandable.
marigshu 3 points 9m ago
You can either pour the cold brew in and cut it with water when you make the drinks or you can cut the pitcher with water. It’s what we did before nitro was a thing.
ayakowantsmemes 2 points 9m ago
We reserve our kegs for nitro, so the machine has less chances to f up as much
caramel_macheecheeto 2 points 9m ago
cold brew concentrate to the bottom cup line, water to the ice line. we just put our concentrate in orange pitchers.
bunnysbigcookie 2 points 9m ago
my last store didn’t have a tap. cold brew was still made the same but we put the concentrate in pitchers and made cold brew beverages like we did before nitro (cold brew to first line on cup, water to third line, and then ice)
angryairheadaries 2 points 9m ago
i used to work at a licensed store and we made the cold brew the same we way do at corporate (with the toddy) and then cut the cold brew with water (1-1) and stored them in the fridge in pitchers. one toddy usually made 6-8 pitchers on average.
giftedburn0ut 2 points 9m ago
my store has a tap and recently a curtis as well because the tap is slow and peak go brr lol
nicolelynnejones 2 points 9m ago
We have our cold brew in a curtis
Vistril69 1 points 9m ago
our tap's fucking broken- so we brew it in the toddy, put it in kegs then pour kegs into pitchers 😩
B1ushhh 1 points 9m ago
Toddy brewer!
ConsistentCow5848 1 points 9m ago
We put cold brew in a toddy and fill 3 pitchers with it throughout the day. I think we have a tap but we go through so much that it's pointless to use
krym32zamoon 1 points 9m ago
But then how do you keep it cold? Standard is suppose to be it's refrigerator for 4 hrs before it's good to go. Is the toddy kept in the fridge?
ConsistentCow5848 1 points 9m ago
We don't keep it cold. Actually we don't refrigerate it at all. We are a 90 thousand dollar a day store so we have to do what we can to stay on top of things, really we have our own standards pretty much. I believe we used to keep cubes of cold brew in the fridge, but that was well over a year ago.
krym32zamoon 1 points 9m ago
Oh wow, praise to everyone at your store cause at that high volume things are usually hectic. How many toddys of cold brew do you guys make a day?
ConsistentCow5848 1 points 9m ago
We always have two toddys of cold brew on hand. With the newer cold brew machines we make I think 10 cubes worth a day
