I left back at the end of August. I was a shift for 3 years in a busy drive thru.
I love my career that I started but having to live off credit for so long, I’m in an uncomfy amount of debt.
I’m coming back to work nights (~16 hours/week) at the store my friend is an SM at. A small, cozy cafe location.
Im excited but nervous.

Awesome! It's great if you have your priorities set and can leave it at the door :). I work 20 hours a week (bennies!!). I open every weekday (M-F) from 4:30 - 8:30 then go to my day job.
Make sure you take advantage of the benefits, and look at bumping up to 20 hours a week. The insurance through Starbucks is better and WAY cheaper than through my salaried position (a company based in TX, but I am remote in NJ). It really is why I am at Starbucks other than loving coffee. Those sweet sweet trans inclusive healthcare benefits.

Luckily my benefits at my FT job are better (perk of working in medical haha) but I just need the money 🥲

I will! Im in AODA counseling so it’s not like I’m on my feet all day but it’ll be an adjustment for sure working 2 jobs again.

isn’t it against ethics to be friends with your sm? conflict of interest?
ResidentialSaltbox [OP]6 points9m ago
I’m never going to be working with her and only became close with her after consistently working at her store covering shifts while I was full time at my home store
lewabwee5 points9m ago
It is but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it be an issue in any sense before. I think they mostly say that just so they can do something about it if an sm is being unethical.

It is but not totally enforced. Our district is 80% people that have worked under this one SM and turned into shifts, SMs or ASMs and they’ve all been mingled and dated and known each other forever.
It definitely leads to problems and sucks that it’s not equally enforced. Even like how OP is describing it could he favoritism. They get the schedule they want, I’m sure time off would be approved etc. it might not be the same for everyone else in that store.

At my old store, we had a shift and a barista who dated and there was blatant favoritism that he showed toward her and even getting reported nothing happened haha
I know there’s not gonna be any favoritism. I knew she was desperate for a closer as she was working late herself a lot. The only “special request” I made was being unavailable on Sundays so that way I’m not working 7 days a week between Starbucks and my counseling job.

And that's not even a special request at all. That's you listing your availability.
