So someone came to Fix our Espresso Machine, He was so Awesome:) This is for the Newer Espresso Machines.
He told us to never stop shots when they are grinding, wait until the water flows out, then you can stop it. After a rush or if it’s been sitting a while Rinse the bar Twice. Also don’t put Caramel bottles on the bar at all, on the tray, hoppers, nothing.
Pill, (Cleaning Tablets) bars twice a day, after Peak and then at close Don’t forget to calibrate the bars every day. To calibrate you pull 2 shots 5 times of each bean type, Blonde, ESP, Decaf.
All of this will maintain your bars, pulling bad shots as often, and keep them working longer.
I just thought I would share this with everyone. :)

Okay I’m definitely guilty of cancelling shots while they’re grinding
rusted1728 points9m ago
I didn’t even know this was a problem. Thanks Op!

Didn't know it was a problem either! Our machines are only a year old and have so many issues, so waiting out a wrongly entered shot is killer.
gabby2468110 points9m ago
Only because the new machines don’t let us cancel them until they start >:[
OneRoseDark12 points9m ago
pro tip! going into settings and back will cancel all your queued shots!!
gabby246815 points9m ago
Siren bless you
Torirock1031 points9m ago
ur supposed to pill twice a day? 🤨
mac7695 [OP]13 points9m ago
Yea apparently after peak, and at close. At least with the newer models.
idkcassie16 points9m ago
we did even with the old ones. I thought that was standard ?
Swan978 points9m ago
The repair guy told us that everytime he came out and I'd tell my store manager who would tell the morning shifts but they would never do it. It was so annoying because if they would do it the problems could have been prevented

😳

This must be for the m1’s. You only pill the m2’s once a day. Our tech was very specific about this. They also don’t calibrate this way either Edit: I was wrong about calibrating.
PercyGabriel112912 points9m ago
There is the auto calibrate that you do after they get cleaned, but if you are getting consistent bad shots being pulled, pulling 5 doubles is how you let it figure itself out and recalibrate. I have never heard the polling twice thing so I'm on the same page with you on that though
OneRoseDark9 points9m ago
No.. no this is definitely how you calibrate an M2. Five doubles of blonde, five doubles of regular, five doubles of decaf.
sheep_heavenly3 points9m ago
I'm inclined to think not, the m1s were pilled 3 times a day if I remember right.
Cleaning twice a day would make sense, there's so much that goes wrong with these machines that is tech attributed to the volume of shots pulled. Maybe more frequent cleaning would help that.
horriblyIndecisive1 points9m ago
This is true. Source: store still has m1

Thinking about my ssv that yells at me every time I run a rinse cycle and is annoyed my grounds drawer is more wet than hers would be. Also thinking about all the customers she has served nasty shots to because of her refusal to run rinses :)
fuckingveganshark7 points9m ago
a repairperson also told us that if you cancel a shot, rinse immediately after. otherwise the grounds for the cancelled shot stick inside the machine and clog it up
electricblackjack6 points9m ago
100% agree with not placing the caramel drizzle bottles on top of the machines, this also goes for the printers.
One time we had a caramel drizzle leak on our label printer because someone left it there and the caramel damaged the inside of the printer.
krym32zamoon6 points9m ago
You don't need to clean the new bars twice a day, that was the old bars. And to calibrate them there's the auto calibration function that should be run in the morning when you turn them on.
Did they say why not to have the caramel on the espresso machines at all?
kaitoblade6 points9m ago
What do you mean by pill? The cleaning thing ?
mac7695 [OP]4 points9m ago
Yea the cleaning Tablets
dallizzlee5 points9m ago
M2s have an auto calibration button
uwumoment5 points9m ago
a note- to calibrate there’s an option in settings labeled auto calibrate so you don’t have to manually pull all those shots :)
OneRoseDark2 points9m ago
auto calibration pulls like 30 doubles. manual calibration pulls 15 doubles.
EliMinivan5 points9m ago
My older machine doesn't let me stop a shot untill espresso is flowing out of the spouts
mama_mama_serpentine3 points9m ago
We’ve had numerous techs tell us that the machines would do significantly better if they were pulled twice a day, but also that we aren’t allowed to pull twice a day or they’ll come after us for “wasting product”. Hate it.
hauxbi3 points9m ago
M2’s do not need to be cleaned twice a day like the M1’s, this info was provided in the training that everyone should’ve done when they received the new machines! The M2’s are made so that you only pill them at close, everything else though is accurate and that’s how it should be done!
Enkeria924 points9m ago
I’d actually clean the M2’s twice a day and it helped PM tremendously.
KikiDelRio2 points9m ago
Another important thing to remember with the new machines is they do micro calibrations throughout the day but ONLY on double shots. You will begin experiencing more failed shots when using a ton of triples. Also, remember to rinse the machine between every 20ish drinks.
lewabwee2 points9m ago
My tech told me that you gotta pull 2 shots 15-30 times to fully calibrate them. It needs to be enough that it’ll have time to adjust and maintain the new settings if it’s wrong.
PutSimple31341 points9m ago
We set a timer to rinse every 30 minutes, that’s supposed to help too. Also ALWAYS dump the grounds when it asks you to!!
