question about the 12 hour/week requirement + shady manager?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by laadupe
With this new rule, do you have to have at least 12 hours EVERY week, or do your hours just have to average out to at least 12? I average 25ish hours a week in general but have time off for a trip next week so I’ll only be working 2 shifts, totaling 9 hours.

My SM hasn’t said anything about this being an issue, but we just got our schedules for the week AFTER that one and she only gave me 10 hours, even though I have plenty of opportunity for more. This has me nervous since it’s 2 weeks below 12 hours in a row. That being said, I literally have COMPLETELY open availability, every single day open to close, and have never been scheduled that lightly. She’s also changed the length of many of my shifts, multiple of them changed from 5+ hours to under 4. And she isn’t just doing it to me, other partners are complaining about her cutting the length of shifts and getting way fewer hours than they’re used to on the newest schedule. So my questions are, will having 2 weeks under 12 hours in a row get me fired? And is my manager intentionally trying to weed us out? I’m a good partner, have been with the bux for almost a year, and have no idea why she isn’t giving me and my other partners our typical hours all of a sudden.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be YOU provide a minimum of 18 hours availability, and MANAGERS are supposed to *schedule* a minimum of 12 hours on the schedule.

i.e. you aren't required to work 12 hours a week, the manager is required to schedule that. So if she's not scheduling it, *she's* the one in violation of expectation, not you.

OMG, she also sent me and a couple other partners a text today encouraging us to stay late for our shift tomorrow, saying that “I know some of you aren’t averaging the required 12 hours weekly, so this would be a good opportunity to increase that.” When she LITERALLY CUT TOMORROW’S SHIFT IN HALF FOR ME??? I had almost 6 hours that day, SHE cut it down to 3.5, and now she’s asking me to stay late?!!! literally what is going on

it's an avg of 12 hours a week so you don't need to worry about it
