They released some training videos a bit ago about not giving too much. Technically they’re not “wrong” but you can make the moment right too. I don’t usually do it for everyone though I’m fairly selective. They didn’t need to “yell” but you don’t want to be giving too much free stuff out. It encourages people to “forget” their card all the time if you do.

We had this girl coming for birthday drinks forgetting her phone and also not having an ID. Had to put a stop to it real fast. If she doesn’t want you doing that I’d just listen and let her get any flack for it if the SM really doesn’t want her doing it tbh. This has nothing to do with “no clue what she’s doing”. Honestly that’s just a rude opinion that isn’t welcoming at all to new people and isn’t really nice. New shifts almost always struggle to find that right balance for their store - it’s just a learning process.
