what's the policy for filming?(self.starbucksbaristas)

Our shift was just yelling at a man who was face timing his wife (I saw it before this) saying not to film us, are we allowed to ask that? I've seen mixed messages about it with other companies so I'm not sure

Starbucks Partner Guide Page 37:
“Personal video recording, audio recording or photographing of other partners or customers in the store without their consent is not allowed except as protected under federal labor laws….
…Starbucks installs security cameras in the stores for partner and customer safety and to monitor activities involving cash. Partners should be aware that these security cameras will capture video and/or audio recordings.”
FaceTime in store is fine, intentionally recording partners who are working is not fine.

I think she thought he was recording her to the FaceTime person?

Either way, as soon as the customer points the phone at a partner and the partner requests to stop being filmed, the customer is violating company policy.
Yes, partners should always be cognizant that they may end up online, but it is still against company policy to film us at work.

Gotcha! That's great to know thanks because I really was shocked and didn't know whether or not it was allowed, thanks!

Is the partner guide on the hub?? Or is it something I can access from home?

Yes, it’s on the Partner Hub. You can access than from your home computer/phone

In SSV training youre supposed to maintain composure because you ultimately cant stop them from filming policy or nor, and if it ends up online, youre representing the company. Sounds like your SSV needs retraining on deescalation.

She kept saying something about not consenting to being filmed and about a minor working with us but I was trying to understand if we were even allowed to ask people that but she just kept saying she didn't consent. She was telling him loudly over and over and I don't think he was recording.. I mean maybe but he just holds his phone like that from what I had seen before. She's a transfer from another store so idk

Sounds like an incident report. Id just say for yourself, distance yourself from this situation, and if you ever find yourself in the position be 110% professional until you can remove yourself and get a supervisor. Hopefully after this the SSV will be coached on it and can handle it better in the future.

Some people do not want to be filmed when that can potentially be blast online. And then if someone happens to see it, then they will know where that person works and where they can find them. Inside a store is private property, so people should not be filiming without permission. Ask someone, especially women running away from violent ex-partners, if this matters to them or not. Too many people don't consider that people don't want to be online.

I'm a woman, and I know, I was asking about policy.
