My guy at the window really demanded 40 pumps of pumpkin sauce in a short cup for 80¢. He insists we do it for him all the time? Like what the fuck? Nobody in my store would give you a separate cup of just straight pumpkin for 80¢. He said he was fine with paying the 80¢. Like dude that's not the point. Any rational person would charge you a hefty amount for a seasonal/limited item just for a big cup of the syrup. It's insane how addicted these customers are to this shit. I ended up only giving him 15 pumps for the 80¢.
GoldennTrash158 points9m ago
i don’t think we’re allowed to just give someone pumps of any syrup if they’re not ordering a drink at all, so i would have told that guy to fuck off, respectfully
zoiebugs74 points9m ago
This is the one. We can't sell just drink components. They must be in a beverage.
reclusivegiraffe47 points9m ago
my shift supervisor once said to a customer “we sell drinks, not ingredients” when they wanted a water with strawberry pieces in it, but didn’t want to pay the price of a custom iced tea
darkwolf5239 points9m ago
^this is the way.
You’re right
ezranilla6 points9m ago
so theoretically if someone ordered a tall pumpkin drink with all of the ingredients removed (except syrup) but add 40 pumps of pumpkin syrup, would y'all fulfill that order?
GoldennTrash13 points9m ago
sure, cause ur paying for a drink and as far as i’m concerned you can add as much or as little to ur drink as u want. i would wonder why someone would do that just for some sauce when they could just buy a whole bottle somewhere else, but whatever 🤷🏾♀️
i’ve had someone order a macchiato without espresso
ezranilla3 points9m ago
I know some people order coffee drinks w/o the coffee to use at home like creamer.
high key forgot you can just straight buy the syrup.
aSweetMango75 points9m ago
i would’ve gone straight to a supervisor and asked because there’s no way in hell i’m doing that and getting in trouble. he should just look online for pumpkin syrup instead of trying to cheat the system. does he really think the store just gets product for free?
i *hate* when people say something along the lines of “i get it all the time” or “they let me last time” and i just know they’re bullshitting me. one of the stores i worked at didn’t let us scan the qr code for stars, the system was old and it just didn’t work. some lady started complaining saying “i do it every time i come here. they did it for me last time”. okay but you literally don’t because this store has *never* been able to scan that code and i was the one that took your order last time and we had this same conversation a week ago!!
Js_On_My_Yeet [OP]28 points9m ago
Luckily I was the supervisor cuz yeahhhh no way in hell I'm giving you 40 pumps of pumpkin for 80¢ lmao
awesomechief9899 points9m ago
Custom iced tea/latte.
vidadelbm38 points9m ago
Two different people came in asking for beverage components for next to nothing like wtf! Lmk who the “other Starbucks that does it all the time” is
Js_On_My_Yeet [OP]20 points9m ago
Lol wow. If they wanna do that then might as well send in an application and we'll teach you how to make the drinks
niftyynifflerr3 points9m ago
No literally when I'm not trying to make the moment riht because they are being rude and entitled, if they say some other store did it for them, i respond with "oh could you tell me which store it was? I'd love to call them. Their store manager would definitely want to know about the policy violation." Big smile. Flutter the lashes.
vegan-trash3 points9m ago
What’s the standard for this? I’m an SSV and idk what to do if it happens to me
vidadelbm9 points9m ago
We’re not allowed to sell drink components without a base drink
xthefabledfox3 points9m ago
I’d do custom iced latte no milk, no ice, etc
niftyynifflerr1 points9m ago
Technically you can do it but they're paying for a BEVERAGE, modified appropriately. Not a "cup of water" or whatever with mods added.
gymnamind2 points9m ago
I think the only time I’ve ever sold just the component was for matcha bc we were out of nondairy milks and the girl was lactose intolerant, and she asked nicely so i just kinda told her she could blend it with her milk at home and then add ice. I think that was closer to “making the moment right” and since then she still comes in and orders as normal since we have the milks
AverageBen10Enjoyer25 points9m ago
> I ended up only giving him 15 pumps for the 80¢.
I don't understand the use of "only" here, it sounds like he wanted to get as much syrup as he could for as little money as possible and you happily obliged and somehow think you came out on top?
Snarfungus18 points9m ago
yeah definitely not for 80 cents, i would ring it up as a custom tea latte but only after checking with my manager/supervisor. 40 pumps seems excessive
CyzophyTacos73313 points9m ago
Literally had a customer skip the ordering window... cut the line and refuse to move out of the way, until he got his PSL, literally screamed at my coworker the entire time they were interacting and even stated he wouldn't move... so they got the window closed on them. They left after 5 (ish) minutes.
Over a PSL, Like, come on man....
lilangrytiger5 points9m ago
Should have charged them for a short pumpkin spice latte 40 pumps of pumpkin and an ask me saying no milk no shots.
Thrasheon5 points9m ago
I had a similar discussion with a customer the other day who wanted just a cup of pumpkin cold foam and I got the typical “But the other Starbucks does it for me.” I just smiled and stated firmly that regardless of what other brocations do policy is policy.
BlueMuffins925 points9m ago
See, this one of the few I feel like you can do. Small cup of cold milk + VSC modifier + Pumpkin Sauce + Blended = cup of cold foam. Def guna be more expensive than they were thinking tho lol.
Zeldaluvr20074 points9m ago
I can’t imagine 40 pumps would even fit in a short cup!! That’s a lot of pumpkin sauce 😯
Solid_Wish4 points9m ago
Custom tea latte + syrup modified is how ive been trained to deal with these ppl
sam_thegod3 points9m ago
Just say no, you sheep
tadomegu2 points9m ago
Does 40 pumps fit in a short cup? Probably would have told him to pay for a full on PSL no milk, espresso, whip, or topping LMFAO
reclusivegiraffe2 points9m ago
does he know he can go to like, Gordon’s Food Service, and buy jugs of fontana or monin pumpkin spice? it’s not starbucks brand, sure, but it’s basically the same
Kaywin2 points9m ago
I don't know if it used to be different but I'm absolutely convinced at this point that Starbucks' "PSL" syrup is 99% sweetened condensed milk with food coloring. *Maybe* there is a sprinkle of cinnamon in there somewhere. But because it is orangish and creamy, customers' brains register it as tasting generally festive, I guess.
I used to be such a fan but after working at Sbux I'm a little over their PSL...
sandycat5553 points9m ago
As a kid I used to make pumpkin pies and wasn’t good at following directions. So when the can said, add evaporated milk, I didn’t know what that was so I just assumed it was the same thing as sweetened condensed milk, and used that. 1:1. My pumpkin pies tasted like eating a solid PSL minus the coffee.
sandycat5553 points9m ago
I’m pretty sure there is actual pumpkin in it, this year. IIRC someone complained about false advertising.
But yeah, basically. Sweetened condensed milk with about a tablespoon of canned pumpkin pie paste per gallon, I think. & some spices.
reclusivegiraffe1 points9m ago
i can have about one PSL a season, then i’m done. the smell of it makes me nauseous after working with it for a while
the_fun_mom1 points9m ago
Yeah, hell no. They must buy the drink creme/steamer and say no milk no whip only 40 pumps. He’s insane.
Haunting-Row70511 points9m ago
How cheap can you get???
darkwolf5231 points9m ago
Yeah no. I’ll tell them they can head to those Starbucks that “does it for them”
