green bean is all over the place(self.starbucksbaristas)

so theres a green bean at my store who’s been here for roughly about 2 1/2 weeks and they have a great spirit for working at starbucks but i feel like on bar they get a lil crazy and end up with an attitude and it’s been making me a bit mad. just yesterday on the floor there were only 4 people. one on dto and dtr, my shift manager on warming, and me and the green bean were on bar (me being specifically on cold bar, and them on hot bar). the drive through had no cars so my shift manager told me to get out of cold bar and help restock the whole store cuz we had gotten a bunch of deliveries that morning and the whole store looked like box heaven. so i do as im told and i notice the green bean keeps stacking cups on the cold bar. a couple minutes later as im restocking i hear them yelling while looking at me going “who’s supposed to be on cold bar?” and i answer trying to be calm “i believe u are on hot and cold bar because im restocking” and they continue to raise their voice talking about how they need all these drinks done asap and that next time for me to give them a heads up about it. i kept my calm and just told them that next time ill let them know but also that my shift manager had literally said it out loud that i wasnt gonna be on cold bar. in reality i think this was just a confusion problem but it really got me mad that they were yelling at me. then today i had a morning shift and they apologized to me about it and i was like its ok. but then as the day went on we had a huge rush, like there were cars going down 2-3 blocks waiting to get to the drive through. im on dto and dtr and as im giving away orders to the customers i realize that some of these drinks are wrong. so i turn around and realize that the green bean is on cold bar making drive through drinks even though they’re supposed to be on cafe bar making hot drinks for the cafe. usually that’s ok and i don’t mind but honestly they were all over the place. they kept bumping into all the other coworkers and it was just a huge mess. wrong drinks, huge spills, upset customers and coworkers. it had a lot of people stressed out and a lot of customers mad that their drinks were being made wrong. i just don’t know how to deal with this because i know that if this doesn’t get resolved soon were gonna keep having issues in the future. they have a great charisma but i feel like they’re taking this job to seriously. its just a coffee shop.

How well does your store follow roles, such as staying planted when busy?

i’d say we’re pretty good on that. every time we start a shift or come back from break we’re told where to go and sometimes they’ll switch us around depending on how we’re each doing in every station.

As a more roasted green bean, that was my hardest time period adjusting. You know enough about the drinks, but not enough for good accuracy, and have zero flow of the store. What helped was checking in with people who knew what was going on and asking what I can do to help. Maybe try checking in on them, “hey, we could really use you on (new position) I’ll have (person) on (old position)”

i agree. we were all green beans at one point and i get that the job can be really overwhelming especially when you’re new and learning the drinks (especially during rush). if i could i would tell offer them to go on warming or front register but unfortunately im not in charge of the floor so i couldnt tell them where to be. i did however reminded them once in a while to make sure to stick to their role and their role only. unless they were done doing drinks and saw that someone else was deep in cups then they can go ahead and help.
