People driving past the speaker box (self.starbucksbaristas)

What do you do???? I usually have a bit of a “confused and kinda annoyed but not rude to the point where you can complain” attitude ngl. Like “Um, hi. You didn’t order? Yeaaaaaah even if it’s a mobile/want waters/etc you gotta let us know at the box. Yeah. Next time stop at the box.” I’ve had a coworker send them back to the box before but genuinely don’t have the gumption to start something like that. What do y’all do? (Also the orders that are waters annoy me to no end but I suppose it’s fine since they lower drive time).

Lol yeah no mercy from me unless they’re deaf. I’ll sarcastically ask them “ You forgot to stop at the huge metal box with an awning that says “place order here”?” Sometimes I’ll also make them go around again. If they make a fuss I’ll remind them that there’s an order box in our drive thru just like at McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Taco Bell etc..

All these people with expensive German cars with Ivy League school stickers on them and they don’t know how a drive thru works? Or they “forgot” because it’s “only” 8:00 in the morning? Sorry hun but you gotta pay the stupid tax.

It usually depends on my mood/how busy we are. I have politely said to people picking up mobiles, hey next time if you stop at the box we can be sure your order is all ready. I also fairly recently had someone skip the box when it wasn’t slow and just ordered at the window didn’t say anything about missing the box, but straight up acted like it was completely normal to order at the window, I’m pretty sure she just had one or two fairly easy things so i let it slide. Then we also have several deaf customers that will skip the box and either order or pick up a mobile order, so in that case I completely understand. I definitely am irritated by this, but try to remember there are often reasons for someone to do this and if there’s not then a gentle reminder can help.

I think this is a great reply. I’m constantly bombarded with customers acting awful and genuinely coming from a place of disrespect/lack of seeing me as human/equal, and it’s gotten to a point where I don’t want to be nice at all. I feel like I’m on the defensive or just ready for some BS because otherwise it blindsides and genuinely hurts me. But thanks for this reminder that not everyone is an asshole who just doesn’t want to be inconvenienced :l

Oh for sure, we did one time have someone skip the box, there was a line, when they got to the window barely held up their phone and didn’t say anything. While they were finding the order I told the guy very nicely, hey if you stop at the box we can make sure we have that all ready to go for you. The guy just legit angrily pointed at his watch like this whole thing was taking too long. So there are definitely assholes out there who abuse this.

i had two different people just roll straight through to the window without ordering at the box bc i told them id be with them in just a second 😭😭 customers are so weird sometimes

I always send them around unless there’s no line and even then I tell them next time they have to order at the speaker and tell the exactly where it is. I explain that other people have already ordered and their drinks/food are made and waiting.

There is a sign saying pull forward if you need help ordering but for anyone that doesn't need assistance, that's weird and annoying.
