Horrible Sulfur Smell (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by highspeed06
Okay so I just got off work and i still feel absolutely horrible so i apologize for any broken english. I showed up today for work at 4:00pm ish and i was up front for pretty much two hours, never really going into back of house. Around 6;00, i was put on support focusing on doing dishes and doing ovens. Around this time, i started smelling this horrible sulfur smell coming from the back of house, i though somewhere around the dish pit or water filtration system. I though this could be sewer gas, or possibly even a gas leak, but when i told my ssv this, they simply blew it off saying "what am i gonna do about it" After a lot of complaining, i finally get them to call our SM and he says to call the fire department, but i believe she only told the fire department to check for natural gas and not for sewer gas or anything. around the time the fire department gets there, the smell has moved into the cafe area and people are definitely noticing this smell. The fire department goes to the back, runs their test, and comes back and says they're nothing there and that there's a water treatment plant up the road and it might be from there, but they go and test there and nothing. once again, i think only checking for natural gas and not sewer gas.

Now, id expect to feel a little bad after this considering the fear of it being a gas leak and the bad smell, but I'm worried that this really was sewer gas. I've had a wicked headache and i was feeling exhausted the entire latter half of my shift.

Basically I'm really unhappy with how today went and i don't know if there's more i should be doing considering working around sewer gas (especially for multiple hours at a time) is definitely not good for you.
