Starbucks Baristas: The daily grind

I’ll admit it, I was being overly petty to a customer yesterday (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by dnims24
So this lady came through the drive thru and wanted to order a trenta pink drink no ice and four cups of ice on the side. Now normally I’d just be like yeah ok whatever but this lady. Miss ma’am was so rude from the moment she drove up, yelling into the speaker box before I could even greet her then getting mad that we were sold out of certain lunch sandwiches and whatnot. So finally when it got to that drink I told her unfortunately miss we can only give you one tall cup of ice with that and I just blamed it on policy. She might complain but honestly it felt like a small victory to me. I was petty and could have made that order for her but nah sis go to a grocery store and get some ice yourself. (Oh she canceled the order btw after I told her no.)

Tbh if they legit do the math with the ounces , a Trenta is 1 ounce under two grandes and 5 ounces under three talls (not including ice). It’s really not a lot ,So the customers like that lady are just wasting ice and plastic to make it look like it’s “full” which is something they complain about Starbucks doing all the time.

I’d do the same thing if I was in your shoes. You win more with honey than vinegar and from your story , this lady tried to give you poison which to me does not fly. 💅

Yeah I was a little worried about her coming in and complaining but she never did so I like to believe she knew she was wrong

I agree in this situation but I personally do order light or no ice in my drinks sometimes when I am getting multiple. I will put one in the fridge for later and I don’t want the ice watering it down. I’ll add my own ice when I go to drink it.

Yea that i feel is fine. But to order no ice in ur trenta drink lol and then request 4 cups of ice is insane especially even more so because some stores are having cup shortages or theyre just running low on some sizes cuz business is going up and people are getting those specific sizes more.

So like they want 4 cups of ice on the side and then when we run out of those sizes, we cant make drinks for customers who wana pay for a drink for that specific size because mary came along before that and got a no ice drink and a handful of ice cups lol

I also personally get no ice in my drink :)

I do no ice to drink it the following day after adding my own. I don't ask for a cup of ice to "extend" my drink or "get more". What are these people -_-

Yeah personally I have sensitive teeth so I never get ice in my drink. I felt like this particular cust was trying to scam us especially after she started arguing with me about the ice so I doubled down

Lol idk why people do that. Saying no ice is not guna give u enough for few extra drinks. It allows for an couple gulps of the sugar liquid but to them, its mOrE dRiNk when they put it in ice in separate cups because it expands it and makes it look like u get more extra liquid lol if u wana split it between a few people, then go get ur ice from the store or do it at ur house. Like ur already getting extra liquid for free because of no ice and now u want me to prepare 4 cups of ice for u? Nope. Theres random cup size shortages going on in my area and i would not be allowed to do that for her. People keep asking for venti and trenta cups of ice and ice waters but at my store for now, we are told that we should only give customers tall ice or ice waters but that if they complain, the biggest we can do is a grande (not a policy i dont think...its just at my store for now til the shortages stop happening on random cup sizes that we sometimes run low on)
dnims24 [OP] 8 points 9m ago
I think they might have made it a new policy bc we’re doing the same things with our waters and ice. Yeah there has been such a shortage on so many things lately. We ran out of caramel the other day and we’re still out of strawberry purée and peach.

Yep in one of the weekly updates it said that there's going to be spot shortages of certain products. But yeah often we're running out of cups of either Grande or venti or Trenta or sometimes will be low on lids and my shift supervisor will call another store nearby and ask if we can use some of theirs so with all these shortages and low supplies going on, we were just advised to not give people bigger than a tall but that if they asked we can give them a Grande at the biggest. Luckily I haven't really had too much pushback from customers when I tell them that. But yeah the most recent thing we ran out of recently was the strawberry acai refresher juice but that only lasted like 2 or 3 days and then we got some more in. And out of all the milks the most that we run short of or close to it is the nonfat milk lol but my store (eastern PA) uses oatly and shockingly, we havent had any shortages on that 🙂

Wow that’s amazing. The past few days we’ve been short on oatmilk so we’re using it sparingly
Responsible_Snow7109 2 points 9m ago
Yea oatmilk is the thing now. I had it like once or twice when it got introduced but like i normally have my shift drinks without anything in it like black cold brew/iced coffee or black espresso shots. No syrups, no milks lol. But i kno we go thru a TON of oatmilk at my store and somehow still no shortage. I heard it makes things creamier and goes well with a lot of our flavors.
