submitted by iwannacry69
16 y/o F I have my interview Friday morning any advice or tips on questions they might ask for things I should be prepared for? Also, if I do get hired during training, do I get paid? are you paid every two weeks? Also what What do beginners baristas due on the first couple of days? also never steamed milk or are used a fancy coffee machine before, so any advice is encouraged😭. (also very excited for my job. I used to work at McDonald’s. Got way too easy boring and slow so I’m ready for the fast paced environment and hopefully it will be fun😃😃😃)

For my interview, my manager mostly asking about collaborating with others and customers service skills. During training, you do get paid and yes you get paid every two weeks. LOL same I never knew how to steam milk or make coffee, but you’ll learn about it during training! Don’t get too overwhelmed during training since it’s a lot to take in! You’ll learn at your own pace and your fellow baristas can help you out too!

No problem! Also a tip to learn what goes into each drink is the website! it tells you what syrup to use, how many pumps for each size, and shots as well!

another 16 y/o who works at starbucks, i did two interviews at different locations but they both basically had the same questions here are the ones i remember,

"what would you do if someone came back and told your there was something wrong w/ their drink/ their drink was made wrong?" i just said i would apologize, ask what was wrong, and then have it remade (which is basically what you do on the job)

"why do you want to work at Starbucks?" i just said i wanted to work there when i was a kid and i wanted a part-time job so i could socialize some more,

and "talk about a time when you corrected/trained someone in something and how did it go?" ok something among that line but i literally talked about my middle school soccer team bc i had no prev work experience

\- and yes you do get paid during training! my first two days were spent doing computer training. then i met my trainer and learned all the different roles and practiced them for about two weeks (cs, hot/expresso bar, cold bar, drive through, warming, front register, etc) + i barely knew anything about steaming milk or coffee or whatever but you get the hang of it with practice! best of luck!!!

they asked me about connecting with customers, do i like coffee, times when i helped a coworker, etc. If you dont have much work experience maybe talk about helping a classmate or friend or family member.

my first few shifts were talking with the manager, making a training plan, learning some prep, shelf life, tasting drinks/food, doing modules, and learning where everything is/doing support tasks.

the coffee is the hardest part, but the most fun to me! its hard to learn and keep it all straight but everyone is usually nice and eager to help you. good luck
