I was fired today and I don’t know if I’m being dramatic or if it’s actually deserved haha()

This seems extreme to me, especially because you were planning on paying for it.

I’m confused… Save ur partner beverage to be made for when ur off instead of your break??? You can have a drink in all ur breaks/lunch one up to 30 mins before you clock in and after you clock off.
Ok_Site64511 points9m ago
I wanted to take that drink as well as my partner Bev 30 minutes after the end of my shift, something that people were really laid back about at the store I had worked at for years so I just kept that mindset unfortunately
Accomplished-Bad385618 points9m ago
I don’t know what kind of Starbucks you work in, but I’m going to assume that there were at least five drinks that needed to be remade during one shift. Who’s stressing over one drink bruv? Who are you trying to kid?
Should you have let them make your drink? Probably. Should you have WYA in a New environment? Probably.
You lucked out not having to work with people who are going to live up your backside about whether you get your employee drink on your break or when you leave.

In hindsight there are a few thing I wished I’ve done differently, but I worked for years in a store that no one cared so I kind of had the mindset that these rules weren’t taken seriously considering how close all the SMs are in our district. Common sense would’ve done me well but I’m so shocked I’m fired haha
pastelldillann12 points9m ago
I’m kind of failing to see what the problem was or why you were fired? I thought we were able to get it up to 30 minutes before/after we clocked out???? I’m so confused lmao i’m so sorry that’s BS.

Ugh that’s so stupid :/ i’m sorry :( my store is ridiculously chill about this (we don’t even mark our drinks out half the time) so i cant even imagine.
Ok_Site6454 points9m ago
Also i talked to a shift before I asked to do this too and they were cool with it. The sm caught wind of it and then I got written up. Shift got written up too, said she was shocked bc other people do that all the time
pastelldillann1 points9m ago
this is such BS and i’m so sorry this happened to you OP. nobody should be fired over a beverage they are ENTITLED to by company policy, especially after working and making money for said company. such bullshit. my store is incredibly laid back and we don’t mark our food/drinks out half the time; i do so to leave a record trail sometimes. even if one of our partners comes into the store while they aren’t working, if SM isn’t around, we mark their stuff out. it shouldn’t be a huge deal and you shouldn’t have gotten fired over it. see if there’s any way you can file a complaint or file for unemployment. i’m so sorry this happened to you :(

1) My store has the same strict rule that it’s only one drink marked out 30 minutes before your shift, during your break, and 30 minutes after your break. You can’t save the mark out for later. Either way, they shouldn’t have written you up for not knowing. It’s not your fault at all. They could have just told you.
2) If you wanted two venti lemonades (one mark out and the other bought), they should have allowed you to get it. Trenta lemonade instead was pretty weird.
3) Yeah, my store isn’t allowed to make your own drinks either due to issues. We had a few new transfers & they didn’t know. We never wrote them up or yelled at them. It’s a mistake and shouldn’t be punished by firing you.
Overall, your situation was bs. Seems very bias considering they were observing you. Definitely unprofessional. It’s not your fault you came from a store that had laid back rules. They should have known and understood not every store follows policy.
CBukowski8087 points9m ago
Never assume your co-workers are your friends or will have your back especially if what your doing is against policy. Especially when you’re the new person at the store. Take this lesson to your next place of employment too.
Late_Pomelo_9997 points9m ago
Is it possible to appeal with district and then move to a different location instead? That seems extremely biased
Intelligent_Wash90003 points9m ago
Since when can you only mark out one drink during a shift? It’s unlimited….. ur store is wildin
Necessary_Low9393 points9m ago
Bs separation. I’m sure u can get back with the company if ure not Red flagged
Alternative-Put47083 points9m ago
If this is the real truth and you can go to partner resources and fight back.
vanilllacakez1 points9m ago
That’s a dumb reason to get fired sorry that happened
Buttafly_3601 points9m ago
Well shit, now I can't understand the context really Bcuz OP deleted it :(
DisciplineLeather1271 points9m ago
That’s dumb as fuck lol
Only_Lunch_60201 points9m ago
i think this is really dramatic, i work at a store that’s pretty laid back and if i transferred somewhere strict i’d be in the same shoes fs. did you get more warnings in between? they should’ve cut you some slack for coming from somewhere that didn’t care, its not your fault if it’s learned from your old higher ups. if you’re respecting whatever they tell you when you’re warned then firing you is dramatic
ninjadott1 points9m ago
Unfortunately, the beverage markout policy is in the partner handbook and on the hub which you should always refer to if you're not sure to cover yourself. That's technically abuse of the policy which can end in separation which I've seen many times. Didn't your SM go over the beverage markout policy with you after the first write up? Did you ask what the policy was after getting written up a second time? If you know you're being watched, know the policy and follow it to the letter because that protects you because ultimately, "I didn't know" isn't an excuse. Also, never trust your coworkers to not snitch, they absolutely will. And never assume that just bc your last managed let it slide that your new manager will.
For making your own drink, it goes into the whole "time worked = time paid" policy. You can't be working off the clock and if caught can lead to a corrective action up to separation. The company also doesn't want to be paying you if you got hurt while off the clock doing work.
Those who don't mark out your drinks, always, always mark it out bc that is considered theft and can lead to immediate separation if you're caught.
tregnoc1 points9m ago
Wait do some stores only allow one drink Markout per shift?????
Ok_Site6451 points9m ago
No I didn’t have time to actually drink my drink and by the time I didn’t want it so I was like oh just make it when I’m off and I’ll bring it home and get my last partner Bev (which was normalized in my last store)
Mickey_Fan511 points9m ago
I work at a licensed store and I believe we don’t get free drinks. There are a couple of new baristas that make their own drinks without asking a sm if it’s ok.
Nraveles112 points9m ago
Licensed is different from regular. We get free drinks unlimited during our shift (in the handbook) and one before and after within a 30 min time span.
Our mission is to provide everyone with access to large- scale community websites for the good of humanity. Without ads, without tracking, without greed.
