Waking up in a panic thinking I'm late to opening (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by dontcry2022
I am dealing with so much paranoia right before bed around the time of setting my alarms that I have to check the schedule 2-3 times just to be 1000% sure I haven't misread the schedule

And when I wake up in the middle of the night or to one of my first alarms, I often IMMEDIATELY panic thinking I've overslept or was wrong about when I was scheduled for

I don't know how to be more calm.

I have been late to multiple opening shifts, like to the point of being written up. So I do actually have some general fears about messing up again. But during the day, I don't panic over the idea of being late. It's just immediately upon waking up, which is a time I don't feel super in control of my emotions of course.

Has anyone else gone through this?

I haven’t been late but I do the same thing double- triple check my schedule and my alarm because I’m scared of being late. On my days off I still feel like I’m supposed to be working. Yeah it’s stressful

*Get back home from opening*

*Collapse into bed for a nap*

*Wake up at 5, panic because I’m never supposed to wake up when the sun is out*

(I’ve gone through similar fears in the past. When I freak out I try to remember I just woke up and am not rational, then breath and open my phone to check schedule/time. Wish I had a secret technique to solve it, but I’ve kinda just gotten better at dealing with it as I’ve done it more)

I'm in the same boat, I haven't been written up but I've overslept when I was supposed to be opening. The way I dealt with it is to set multiple alarms, on both my alarm clock and my phone so I wasn't as stressed about my alarms not going off due to a malfunction. Also putting my clock in view from where I sleep helps me to realize I'm not late when I wake up in the middle of the night.

For me personally, melatonin also helps nighttime anxiety for me, I just make sure only to take it if I'm getting a full 8 hours of sleep so I'm not still sleepy when i wake up.

There's not really a perfect answer unfortunately, but I hope it gets better for you <3

I’m the type of person that is a usual opener, so I can understand the typical fear of being late. Now that being said, I am also a planner and have everything written down. Is there a way to ensure that you have a more “stable” schedule (like that you open on Wednesday and Friday, or something like that) to assist with the scheduling fear.
Also I make sure I have a decent alarm on (nothing soft or mellow) that I can hear and note “I need to wake up.”.
