Yesterday a shift told me that the standard is to double cup ALL hot coffees and that has been the standard for around 6 months??? I don’t remember anything like this. I only remember that hot teas are suppose to be double cupped.

From what I remember from training, double cup was only for shorts, and possibly talls. Unless otherwise asked.
And I think stores have different sleeve policies. Ours is for venti hot drinks, or drinks containing hot water. Unless otherwise asked. Shortage issues making stores run differently I guess

I've been told that we're not supposed to double cup drinks unless it is specifically requested. I was also told we're not supposed to put sleeves and stoppers on cups unless requested because it's a waste of product
Edit: The only drinks that come with sleeves are Venti cups because they're an odd shape to handle ( from my SSV ) and drinks that come with hot water ( brewed coffee, brewed tea, hot chai lattes )

Supervisor of 4 years here, Standard is: All shorts get double cupped. No other drinks or sizes get double cupped by standard. Venti always gets a sleeve. And for the other sizes they only get sleeved if they are extra hot, or made with hot water (eg tea, brewed coffee, chai latte) obviously this is unless a customer asks for a sleeve or a double cup

I know it’s not standard to double cup or put sleeves and stoppers but if it has hot water in it I always double cup because I feel it burning my hands so how could it not be burning the customer’s hands too? I also always put sleeves on hot drinks for the same reason. Stoppers though I think are preference so I tend to ask if they want one

Double cup shorts and hot teas (or any drink w/ Hot water tbh but that will vary per store). Any other hot drink gets a sleeve

this is how we do it at my store too

i only double cup shorts bc sleeves don’t fit on them. I sleeve all venti drinks and all chai’s/coffees/brewed teas. i’ll sleeve drinks in the drive thru/cafe if it’s requested or if it’s like an old person cuz i’ll feel bad handing them a hot drink

I was taught standard is to double cup anything that has hot water as a base. like americanos, hot teas, and brewed coffee.

Trainer here! When sbux updated the barista basics in July of this year I poured over every bit of it. And I didn’t see any standard that stated that. Hot teas are double cup standard, and so are shorts because sleeves don’t fit. But I’m pretty sure that’s it.

Double cupped any shorts or talls, would only double cup any size when it came to teas or drip coffee, and the occasional extra hot cappuccino, in which I would let them know I did that, otherwise they complained that it wasn’t hot enough

I was taught to double cup short drinks, brewed teas, americanos, any drinks with hot water in them, and sleeve all hot drinks. Since being rehired, the store I’m at now doesn’t sleeve hot drinks automatically because it’s a DT store and super busy. If I’m on window, I sleeve the hot drinks before handing them off, mainly because I’m used to it but also customers ask for one nearly every time I haven’t put one on their hot drink. Also, I think it’s actually kinda dangerous to not double cup drinks that have hot water in them, that’s just me

I thought it was standard to double cup Americanos and short cups
kbattaglia1011 points9m ago
I worked for sbux for 3yrs. Was a SSV and a barista trainer. By what I remember, all hot teas and americanos get double cupped other than the short. And every drink get a sleeve unless the customer indicates that they don’t want one. Same thing for the double cupping other drinks.

Maybe every store has a different way of doing it? Everyone at my store always double cups the shorts because the sleeves don’t fit and the teas we stick the end of the little string thing into the extra cup if that makes sense(I’m bad at explaining)we did this at my old store too
