Front register get drip coffees?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Alternative-Put4708
We’ve apparently gotten over “40 complaints” of baristas grabbing black coffees for customers??? When a customers orders a hot black coffee at YOUR store what is the procedure? Like every single step? My customers HATE me now because I’m no longer allowed to get their coffees for them.
rtsneedshelp148 points9m ago
As long as it’s not overly modified or has shots, front reg gets drips.
Alternative-Put4708 [OP]46 points9m ago
Do the baristas just turn around and grab it? The issue at my store is they want us to wash hands between every customer. They’re saying we cannot touch anything but the register and the money. Nothing else.
rtsneedshelp59 points9m ago
I mean… if I’ve touched cash I’ll quick wash my hands but if all I’ve touched is the screen, yeah I’ll just turn around and grab it. I can see the argument but I’ve had enough grouchy old men yell at me for not getting their coffee, they really do not care.
Alternative-Put4708 [OP]35 points9m ago
I guess the fine line is you know you have recently washed her hands but the customer does not I think they assume I wipe my ass with my hand and then serve them coffee
Affectionate_Fart23 points9m ago
If they’re that picky, I’d say keep some hand sanitizer to rub between coffee and customers.
Alternative-Put4708 [OP]16 points9m ago
Not allowed I tried arguing that… we are legit no longer allowed to touch cups because of one Karen now all my customers yell at me when I say they have to wait behind the 6 customers that just ordered 5 drinks each for ONE tall coffee
Affectionate_Fart19 points9m ago
…I would see if you could maybe batch the drip orders? Like clear the cue and then grab them all? That’s ridiculous, in all honesty.
BabyH1ppo6 points9m ago
I just turn around and grab it. We wash our hands every 15 minutes anyway. Plus more if you get your hands sticky.. Plus it's not like I'm touching the coffee itself 🤷
redditer98703 points9m ago
Do you really wash your hands every 15 mins? I sometimes see my coworkers never wash and have to call them out. Money is disgusting. Put a dollar or some change in water and leave it. It turns the water black lol
BabyH1ppo1 points9m ago
Yeah. Our SM put a voice recording on our headsets for 15 minutes telling us to wash our hands and it is very enforced
PoppyPancakes5 points9m ago
This standard has been enforced since spring 2020. You cannot touch anything after handling money without washing your hands first
Renyx4 points9m ago
So how do you do drive thru? Do you wash your hands between taking their money and handing them their order? Does DTR strictly handle cash and "connecting" and then DTO has to hand them their stuff?
PoppyPancakes1 points9m ago
Drive baristas aren’t supposed to make/prep drinks and food as part of the same policy from 2020. We have to touch things to give to customers, but when we are touching things like oven tongs, steaming pitchers, blenders etc in the process there’s more room for cross contamination.
Alternative-Put4708 [OP]4 points9m ago
Well it seems like your store is the only one following because no one in this feed is follows that. I’m gonna call prsc today and ask
redditer98701 points9m ago
Its this way at my store too. Covid policy
dyingbytheknife44 points9m ago
at my store it’s *very* high volume so it can get annoying but front reg has to grab drip coffee & brewed teas such as a mint majesty.
Alternative-Put4708 [OP]15 points9m ago
My store makes $75,000 a week so trust me I’ve been Fighting it trying to figure out what the REAL issue is… it’s starting to seem like fake news
Responsible_Snow71097 points9m ago
Hmm im wondering if customers complained that u touched money and then touched their cups or do u think that a bunch of them that wait for their drinks at the hand off get upset that hot coffee customers get their drink first even when ordering after them? Cuz that does seem weird
Alternative-Put4708 [OP]6 points9m ago
It’s said to be the money handling However I just find it interesting that they don’t go wash theirs hands after touching the money also then to go to the condiment bar and touch their lid and lay it down on the dirty condiment bad
Responsible_Snow71095 points9m ago
Yea they literally touched the money that they just handed to u and then they touch the stores door handle which people from all walks of life have touched and then their car door handle and a ton of other stuff. Theyre not guna wash their own hands before.grabbing their coffees so its weird that theyre causing a big fuss about it
Careful_Analyst_290923 points9m ago
We will touch money, get coffees, and handle warming when we are on register. We never wash hands in between touching cash and getting drop coffee. I didn’t even know that was a thing 😳
yunggreat16 points9m ago
Reg barista grabs drip coffees and brewed teas. My store is high volume and we're still expected to get drips with heavy mods (steamed milk/espresso shots/syrups) 🙄
ckb9991 points9m ago
it’s so annoying when someone orders a pike with 5 mods and you got a line through half the cafe
green_magic_frog8 points9m ago
1. They pay for their coffee 2. I turn around 3. I grab cup 4. I pour coffee 5. I put lid/stopper/sleeve on 6. I hand to them with smile and wish them good day
POS grabs coffee/ hot tea at my store if it is a cafe order, otherwise it is whoever's bar the sticker comes out of.
Out of curiosity what general vicinity is your store in (Like state idk)? Cuz it might just be your area
Ceramicusedbook8 points9m ago
Register grabs drip coffee and food at my store because they're right behind the register. Every store I've been into in my city is register gets drip coffee.
transpterodactyl7 points9m ago
Front AND WARMING. how is getting drip different than grabbing food?
NOTcreative-5 points9m ago
Working front when it comes to coffee/tea/unheated pastries: greet, ring, gather as customer is paying (card or getting cash) thank.
kaynist4 points9m ago
front register does brewed hot coffees + teas. if theres modifications or add ons we need from bar, we let them know, they get it for you, and generally if im on front i would finish the drink + hand off myself, but some ppl on bar will take and finish the drink it just depends on the person. as for the washing ur hands in between, that doesnt really make sense to me cus youre not handling food, youre handling a cup? and for teas we keep tongs so you dont touch the tea bags? sounds insanely nitpicky
Alternative-Put4708 [OP]3 points9m ago
Drive thru handles drink cups and money and don’t wash their hands there would be no way for them to wash hands between every customer… how is front reg touching the cup different
kaynist1 points9m ago
no cus thats so true i didnt even think of it. thats all that the person on window does, is handle money, cups AND food nonstop with no break to wash hands. that makes even less sense then for the person on front to have to do all that
star_pants4 points9m ago
There's some confusion because before covid POS would grab drip coffees, provided they didn't have shots/excessive syrups in them. When the stores modified operations for covid we were told not to touch POS/money and then get coffee, so to wash our hands. When that was unsustainable because starbucks has the need for speed, they just told us that POS doesn't get coffee and bar partners do.
I haven't seen anything stating that POS gets coffee again yet, but I may have missed that if it was in an update somewhere.
silver_fang1233 points9m ago
At my store dripped coffee tickets don’t even print out on bar, front has to grab them all
snailsdotcom2 points9m ago
Ever since covid they just have to wait for the person on hot bar to grab it :/ (at our store at least)
Litfitness2 points9m ago
When I worked for the company if you were on the front register and a customer ordered drip coffee than you got it for them. But (or course) quickly and then move on to the next customer. Unless the company policies/standards changed that’s how it should be. If a customer is complaining about that I’d hate to see them anywhere else 😂😂😂
darkwolf5231 points9m ago
If it’s just a regular black coffee, I’ll ask them what size and grab coffee before they hand me the cash. Easy clap
Alternative-Put4708 [OP]1 points9m ago
They don’t care about THEIR cash, they care about where your hands were BEFORE them. Even if you just washed them, the customer didn’t see you do it and that’s where this little issue is happening
darkwolf5231 points9m ago
Oof. I see. Uh I’m assuming your hand washing sink is like behind the pastry case like other stores? So customers can see you wash your hands?
Alternative-Put4708 [OP]1 points9m ago
Sorry didn’t mean to sound angry I’m just frustrated with the whole thing seems fake. The person on drive thru touches so much money then the cups so idk what the difference is i even make the bar person put a lid on so I don’t touch the lid
darkwolf5231 points9m ago
You’re good. It’s understand able to be frustrated but I guess if those Karens/Kevins want to be difficult then the only thing I can think of is have a second person with you as you wash your hands.
Alternative-Put4708 [OP]1 points9m ago
Like others stores? Every store I’ve ever worked at has the sink in a different location. But that’s beside the fact. They didn’t SEE me wash my hands because they were either not paying attention or I washed them immediately before they walked in the door.
CoffeeDisorder1 points9m ago
You grab it before you cash it
aronelo1 points9m ago
At my cafe-only store, the reg partner will grab unwarmed food items, drip coffees/teas, take payment, and be the person who talks most to customers. If there’s a drink that requires heavy mods (eg. shots of espresso or steamed milk) then we’ll write on the cup, fill it with coffee, and hand it to the bar 2 partner to complete it. I wash my hands whenever the timer goes off, or if I accidentally touch a customer’s hand or phone. I don’t wash my hands between cash transactions, since there’s just so many to deal with.

Register always grabs drips and hot teas at my store. We used to also grab non warmed pastries but they finally changed that awhile ago. The coffee and tea thing never changed though. When I covered at a nearby store I was cafe bar and all the drip coffees and hot teas were printing so I asked if the front person grabs them and they said they changed it because they are too busy for front to worry about any drinks. Let me tell you it sucked to be drowning in mobiles and cafe to be running to front to grab pike and mint majesty while the front person stood there.
redditer98701 points9m ago
You ALL lid cups right? So if you’re handling money, grab that cup of coffee cause its “your duty” but dont wash your hands in between you’re still pushing their lid down and getting close to the drink hole. You can’t win this argument. Its sanitary to wash or have bar grab it first. Dont touch my coffee cup with your dirty ass caramel drizzle, and frothed milk steaming wand hands. Gross.
Alternative-Put4708 [OP]2 points9m ago
So the bar person with sticky hands from syrup and old milk shouldn’t even be on bar
Alternative-Put4708 [OP]1 points9m ago
Also wanted to add when you have to now wait 5-7 mins for a simple drip coffee instead of 15 seconds because your tall drip is stuck 15 stickers deep in the sticker machine I don’t want customers coming to my register cussing me out asking why their “simple drip coffee is taking soooo long”
redditer98701 points9m ago
Hey bud, you asked what it was like at others’ stores so don’t be sassy if you don’t like my response lol. And check the policy- since covid BAR people get all drinks. Front rings and supports when needed (with clean hands) lol
Alternative-Put4708 [OP]2 points9m ago
I’m about to call prsc and get a definite answer on the policy as of October 2022
surroundsoup09211 points9m ago
process for my store is ring them up before they pay tell them you’re grabbing their pastry/drip/whatever else you need to grab grab it finish the transaction (if they pay with card all you have to do is ask for receipt)
redditer98701 points9m ago
Since covid ALL drink orders are ticketed and grabbed by bar.
Mommy2SNP1 points9m ago
Front gets coffee and yes we wash our hands between customers if we touch cash we also have a hand washing timer-
TheNightWalker921 points9m ago
Every store I worked at has been different.
First store, R1 grabbed drip coffee, hot teas, oatmeal (even with a warmer)
Second store same but also stickered mobile orders (mobile orders printer was between R1 and R2 for some reason
Third store was only drip coffee and teas
Fourth store was nothing (literally only took orders and did prep) if warmer was present.
trentablondelatte1 points9m ago
you’re supposed to get coffee and teas if you’re front, at least for my store
badtimesman000 points9m ago
Tldr Front gets *black* drip coffees.
Lower volume store, I think lol. Front does get black coffees. But sugar/Splenda/etc. are out of the way.
