we just opened our drive thru today and it went as expected CHAOS.
shifts organized the store so it’s a guessing game on where everything is. some people never did drive thru training so they’re deer in headlights. some people literally begged to be moved from their role because they couldn’t handle the business. 🥲
i know it’ll get better with time and routine but any tips on how to make drive thru more bearable and running smoothly??

Nothing. Like you said, it’s going to take time. Be patient with yourself. You’ll get it down and develop a groove

Things will slowly but surly get better. in the mean time make sure everyone on the floor is communicating EVERYTHING. Like if they’re waiting in the drive through for a drink or food item, if they need something restocked, helping each other and asking questions is the key

THIS. Communication is everything in a drive thru store - new or not. Everyone should get in the habit of communicating clearly what’s going on in every role so they can be supported more effectively.

I recently opened a cafe-to-drive store (after working a few years at a DT store) and the adjustment was difficult for some. I mostly put my new baristas who were trained at DT stores on drive. One of the biggest issues I saw was baristas helping a car at the order box then wanting to cash them out as soon as they pulled up to the window and then making the new car in line wait to order. You don’t have to help someone at the window the second they pull up, especially if their order isn’t fully ready yet. You can take a few orders, then cash them out.
