Sending Barista to Other Store? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by anon_is_no_con
Hi! Sorry if this is jumbled, I feel like shit.

So my store has had a recent influx of COVID cases, enough to affect it opening because only one shift is NOT sick. I worked with a multitude of the people with COVID, I woke up this morning feeling like trash but still went in to open (because at my store its encouraged that as long as its not confirmed covid ya still come in, like ‘how sick are you really?’ y’know?) well the shift who i opened with just found out that sue worked with infected others and no doubt has covid, so my store is closed. I was pretty relieved because I thought okay cool I can go home and re-take a covid test or go to a minute clinic. I overheard our (sick) SM tell my shift to send me to our sister store because they have two people down, never asked me or anything, just ‘send her to I.E 123 Store’. I called her, she didn’t answer my first call btw, and when I told her that I felt sick and was going home to take a test, i got asked ‘do you really not feel well or do you just not want to go?’ and ‘well what’s wrong?’.

Long story short, can SM’s just send us to other stores for our shift and if our store closes temporarily are we obligated to work that shift at another store?

call the store you’re being sent to and ask a shift to walk you through the covid check in. If you are sick you will fail it and cannot come in to work. That’s probably the only sure-fire way to cover yourself in this situation

I’ve already failed the covid check in when i went to open my store, and called my SM about it, thats when she asked me those questions.

If you failed the pre-shift check you cannot work. It’s a violation of health code.

I went straight home after, can she even ask me those questions? I worked a couple shifts with her as recently and she herself has the covid bug, i’m probably just being snarky honestly.

I mean, imo she sounds like an unscrupulous bitch. But that’s not really against policy :P. She just can’t force you to work after you fail the check, exposure or not

Also they can’t make you go to another store if you don’t want to. They should ask you, but even if they don’t you can tell them no.
