YOU.DO.NOT.HAVE.TO.FIND.COVERAGE.
That is the managers job. If you know in ADVANCE you will not make a shift then you would find coverage for it. Any time someone calls in sick or because of an emergency, you don't have to find coverage. THIS IS THE MANAGERS JOB. And don't say you will try. My coworker was written up because she said she would try and was unable to find someone 12 hours before her shift... Just don't respond. Fuck this manager. Managers try to do this shit when it's not in the rule book AT ALL. They just get lazy and don't want to do their job.
Edited to say: in advance means like weeks ahead. Not like oh shit I'm sick I can't come in.

Actually, they can’t make you look for coverage if you’re sick. Point blank.
You’re calling off for a party? Because you have a dentist appointment? Because you got double booked with your second job? That’s on you to find coverage.
Just pointing out that waking up sick, the day of your shift, requires zero effort in finding coverage on your part.

Another reminder that my SM rocks. I'm getting over bronchitis. My SM not only called me to check and see how I was feeling after I left early one day (hadn't been to urgent care yet) but also had no issue finding coverage for 2 additional shifts I missed. Never, ever did he ask me to find myself coverage, but did remind me to put in the book for my sick time.

It is not your responsibility to find coverage, I hate so much that do many store managers try to get away with this.
The relevant section in the Partner Guide is on page 27. Remind your shift/SM that you’re following the company policy that says we are not responsible.

So you should know that some hospitals are able to write off ER bills. You have to do some paperwork (I had to fill out an application and send in my paystubs, my w2 from the previous year, and I think some bank statements) but if you make under a certain amount per year you should qualify.
Anyways, feel better!
