if thanksgiving is one of our time and a half days why wouldn’t we get time and a half on monday?
Affectionate_Fart 9 points 9m ago
I don’t make the rules, but I’m pretty sure it’s because it’s a “traditional American holiday” like in terms of traveling and family time. (People don’t really gather for Columbus Day…)
Ordinary-Theory-8289 5 points 9m ago
Thanksgiving is pretty much the biggest holiday in the US that almost everyone celebrates and gathers with family for regardless of their religion……I don’t think many people are “celebrating” Columbus Day and gathering with their family’s for it lmao it’s a just a day off lol

okay so i’m in canada and thanksgiving is literally on monday
coffeeaddict3416 2 points 9m ago
columbus day shouldn’t even be a holiday lol
skylikeslemonade 1 points 9m ago
lol thanksgiving is on monday in canada wtf is colombus day
coffeeaddict3416 2 points 9m ago
colonizer day
ramieelle 2 points 9m ago
It’s probably mainly because of profit but also Starbucks has a “progressive” company image and recognizing Columbus Day would be problematic for multiple reasons. It’s not a real holiday anyway since no gathers for it.

thanksgiving is on monday in canada :)
ramieelle 2 points 9m ago
Yea but the person who I asked I think is talking about Columbus Day. Canadians will be getting pay and a half tomorrow regardless.

Short answer, we don’t.

Long answer/story, last month I spent quite a bit of time trying to explain what holidays we get time and a half for to my coworkers. It was September 11 and we live in NYC so a partner was wondering if we got time and a half, to which I said no, it’s not a bank holiday. To the question of what’s a bank holiday, I said it’s a set list of holidays where the banks are closed on. “But today is Sunday, so aren’t the banks closed? So that would make this a bank holiday.” Eventually I gave up but I’ll remember that conversation any time a bank holiday rolls around

Canadians get time and a half tomorrow for our Thanksgiving. It's a statutory holiday
