I can't fathom ordering that many drinks on mobile. Weird question: if I was with 13 other people, would it make any difference if everyone ordered on their own app or if one person submitted all 14 drinks on one phone?

Edit: I don't work at Starbucks I'm just a fan

In theory, it wouldn’t make a difference because they’d all show up at the same time. However, I think id be significantly less stressed pulling stickers that say “item 1 of 1” as opposed to “1 of 13”

yeah i pretty much agree, and usually i only pull like 4 stickers at a time so i can sequence without stressing myself but someone came for their mobile before i got to it so i went to prioritize them and then i realized i was seeing the same name as i kept pulling the stickers 🥲

When I worked for Starbucks I experienced my first fight, flight, or “freeze” moment on warming during peak. Usually I’m a fighter hahaha but in this case the tickets just…. Wouldn’t stop coming… only two ovens and only one me and no one to help run items. I just froze. My brain broke and I literally couldn’t move. All I could muster was “help” into the ear thingy and then I just started crying. Yeah I don’t miss those days 🥶

Here is a stupid question (I'm not a barista, I just follow you guys so I can learn how not to behave based on your experiences).

Usually in domino's (I learned from a. Friend), they prep the stations for the upcoming peak hour. Like, they prepare the pizzas with crust, sauce and cheese (like 10-15 of them of the most selling sizes) and wait for the orders to come in and add the toppings, mostly pepperoni.

Anyway, can't you guys, based on past few Sunday sales, prepare the food and keep them outside stacked or something?

We get all of our food just in little frozen packages that are put in the fridge. So technically it's all ready; we just open them and warm them when they're ordered! Some days it's really easy but I think it's also easy to get overwhelmed. I know we do some amount of prep for peak but it's mostly just stocking/overstocking everything and making sure coffee is brewed in my experience

It’s not that the food isn’t prepped, it’s that we’re getting 150+ food items in a half hour period, with two ovens, and each food item takes between 10 seconds and 1.5 minutes to heat. But you’re supposed to keep waits down to a couple minutes tops. It’s just insanely high demand in a place that isn’t built to handle that.

This was me today. Today kicked my ass. So many mobile orders and we actually ran out of every sandwich at one point and only had a handful of breakfast sandwiches when I left at 1:30.

I used to wait tables in the Bible Belt. Church crowds are the worst. I would get two 12 tops of the cheapest and pickiest people around. Then I would be left fake 20’s with fucking scripture on the back of them. I just wanted to bean someone in the head with a coffee pot. Never again.
