Starbucks Baristas: The daily grind

Customer said to warming: “Thanks, it’s nice that you handed my order to me.” (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Necessary_Low939
Because I didn’t hand her drink right to her hands, she was shading me. If I was on warming or register, I’ll hand your things to your hands too. But I’m on bar and have like 6 drinks, ima just put it there. It’s also close to your reach, too. Why are customers so petty about things that don’t matter?

And they're the same one that put the money on the counter instead of my outstretched hand. Urgh
justkeepswimmingswim 31 points 9m ago
Especially when they toss it at you. Had a guy a week or so ago toss the money on the counter and walk away before I could even pick it up. I’m very much over this job and these people
Lcolecrochet 12 points 9m ago
When they throw it on the counter and your hand was already out for them to set it in 😐😐
eagle6705 1 points 9m ago
Had a vertically challenge person come in the store. I took his order and asked my super visor (who is around 6 and a half) at the time if he can ring him up since I had a few other drinks to make. He walks out and says wheres the customer and all he sees is dollar bills and change being thrown on the counter.
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 29 points 9m ago
I started putting the change far from them so they have to reach it 👀
Classic_Use3246 18 points 9m ago
or the people that park 50000 feet from the window and expect us to reach put the window withour feet dangling to scan their barcode
socialist_poet 5 points 9m ago
had a person do this and then go “wow you need long arms for this job!” 🤨
ShannyES 4 points 9m ago
Nah. I make them stretch. Only one of us controls the distance. You chose wrong, my friend. That’s not on me. My feet will not leave the floor to hand out your drink.
mcdonaldspriteremix 4 points 9m ago
the other day some lady did this and held her card out like i was standing next to her
so i stood parallel to the window and wimply held my hand out, she said oops sorry, and we both had a chuckle
penguinophile 2 points 9m ago
I loudly and shamelessly call the tallest person on shift to reach them.
mrcupcake18 1 points 9m ago
Oh no absolutely not! I make them adjust themselves because I am not falling out this window haha
cshluke 11 points 9m ago
Someone could be so nice then they put the money on the counter and I immediately flag them as an asshole LMAO
badtimesman00 7 points 9m ago
I actually prefer it placed down. I wasn't ready to touch hands before covid, an I sure as hell ain't ready to touch hands now 🤢
cinnamondolcie 40 points 9m ago
i thought it was standard to put drinks on the counter instead of into their hands so we don't accidentally spill it on them
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 10 points 9m ago
Great point. I just don’t know. Starbucks policies contradicts each other. Like how can we be fast and connect with people at the same time? How long will our conversations be? 1 second?
lilminch 1 points 9m ago
you just have to instantly know and understand the custies deepest secrets as soon as you make eye contact. that should probably bump up your customer connection score by like a point or two
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 2 points 9m ago
Damn, the siren and her secrets. This is why the customers berates us.
Apprehensive-You5261 1 points 9m ago
Also since covid didn’t they want us not like actually handing stuff to people?
new_direction_ 1 points 9m ago
It is.
testingaurora 33 points 9m ago
Can't let those comments get under your skin, or there will be thousands of bitter and petty customers squirming around under there. Try to just let it roll right off your back and know your intentions were good. How dare these people though. I'll get enraged on your behalf bc it's unacceptable, it's just too much toxicity to focus on.
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 23 points 9m ago
Lol I just thought it’s funny how she would even think of that. I continued to put it down where they can get it. Not sure why it bothers them. Most Starbucks in nyc does this. Like this guy got my attention if this was his iced americano when he the only one in the store and there was no mobile because we were closing soon.
testingaurora 6 points 9m ago
Just something to complain about since we have all the modern conveniences now. Watch idiocracy if you havent. It's crazy
neilgreenbreen 23 points 9m ago
Honestly our customers are sick in the head. I get so many dumb comments like this every day.
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 11 points 9m ago
They only act like this at Starbucks too 👍👍
insanityizgood13 14 points 9m ago
I used to work for a retail store, & I can guarantee you that they act like this with any & all customer service workers. I once had a lady throw a fit because I wouldn't put the paper I wrote our customer service number on it directly into her hand, but slid it across the table towards her instead where the fan blew it onto the floor. People like this just literally have nothing better to do & are so miserable they have to treat people they view as "lesser" than them like shit just to feel like they matter.
neilgreenbreen 8 points 9m ago
Agreed. This is primarily a symptom of a socioeconomic disease. It extends to all aspects of American life, not just coffee consumption
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 5 points 9m ago
I don’t understand. Service workers are still people
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 1 points 9m ago
Wow. They crazy.
ShannyES 1 points 9m ago
My full time job is in healthcare. (Sbux is PT). I promise you, it’s not just at Starbucks. Sadly.
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 1 points 9m ago
Sad. Sb is my part time too. I teach. I have the top 2 worst jobs right? Lol
Canadiansbux 0 points 9m ago
Fast food customers are way worse! I will take Starbucks customers any day.
allsongsconsideredd 3 points 9m ago
Starbucks is fast food lmao
coffee-and-chillll 4 points 9m ago
Was just about to say this lol, sadly I no longer see a significant difference between fast food establishments and Starbucks anymore :/
Canadiansbux 0 points 9m ago
Are you timed inside?
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 2 points 9m ago
Oh? Nah. I’ve seen better behavior in mcd. Of course, mcd has some bad customers but Starbucks with their 10 mods, no sir!
Js_On_My_Yeet 7 points 9m ago
"You're welcome! Hope you have a fabulous day!" /s
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 3 points 9m ago
I just ignored her ass LOL
Js_On_My_Yeet 2 points 9m ago
Lol that works too 😂
dramaticcringelord 3 points 9m ago
She just wanted to hold your hand
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 2 points 9m ago
🤢🤮
nonogender 1 points 9m ago
the disrespect and childishness from adult customers at starbucks will forever be 1000% worse than any other bad customers at my other food service job. and i worked there 7 years vs only a year at starbucks
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 1 points 9m ago
I also work at a restaurant and yeah the people aren’t that bad there. Of course there are one or two rude here and there sometimes but not often.
Lumpy-Ad-3170 1 points 9m ago
UGH! Had a backhanded woman the other day mock me MULTIPLE TIMES because I forgot HCMT gets 4 HB and not 6 :/
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 2 points 9m ago
“Miss relax.”
Lumpy-Ad-3170 1 points 9m ago
I held my composure and tried to make it obvious that she annoyed me. It’s not like I had messed up her drink or anything, she asked how many pumps, I told her, my coworker (who was my trainer), corrected me, and she proceeded to mock me. He agreed she was being backhanded and had an attitude so I’m glad I wasn’t being seen as sensitive. I also work for a target Starbucks so it is a LOT harder to get away with being rude back to customers.
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 2 points 9m ago
Don’t let her get to u, honestly I’ll be like u wanna make it urself???? Like bro.
wok3less 1 points 9m ago
isnt it against policy to hand it? in case it spills on them? idk i got called out for it years ago
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 2 points 9m ago
🤷🏻‍♀️ Starbucks and their forever contradicting policies
ShannyES 2 points 9m ago
But we hand the same drinks out the DT window?
wok3less 2 points 9m ago
trust me i agree, keep in mind the same person who corrected me also told me in not allowed to say youre welcome. “the starbucks response to thank you is thank YOU” 🥲
Starbucks-sm 1 points 9m ago
If they only knew how many people simply cannot take a drink out of your hand without touching your hand. It's gross, for us and the next people's drinks.
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 2 points 9m ago
That too. But I usually hold the top with my finger tips so they can grab it
LaurdAlmighty 1 points 9m ago
Shoulda looked her dead in her eyes and said "you're welcome"
Necessary_Low939 [OP] 1 points 9m ago
She doesn’t deserve any response from me
