Why wearing a mask to work is still so nice and helpful and good <3 (self.starbucksbaristas)

It's me again making another covid+ related post, but yikes!

I felt so guilty that I went into work with a bit of a sore throat a few days ago, only to find out later that day that I have Covid. But guess what? You're actually contagious for 1-3 days before your symptoms appear. So yes I should've just called out, but also dang, there was a lot of opportunity within those few days for me to infect someone else.

I buy KN95s and wear a mask regularly, any time I'm in public. I think they work. I think I caught covid at some point by removing my mask to eat on breaks or something, that's basically the only time I'm unmasked indoors.

So idk. Everyone has their own opinion on masking, but the past few days have been hell for me being sick and I wouldn't wish this sickness on anyone. On top of that, I'm stuck inside the house for a few more days. If my mask prevented others from getting sick too, that's amazing. I wish more of the partners, and customers, at my store wore them. Especially now that it's cold and flu season. Save yourself the headache and take precautions, imo

Yep I got my second booster a couple weeks ago and I still mask it up in public. I’m not betting on my luck in a public facing job in a relatively small environment. idc what people say.

Ok but also can we talk about custies coming thru drive thru sick as fuck and not masking

This is literally how one of my friends got Covid. He works at my old store, and said a customer pulled up to the window. As he was handing their change back the customer said something like, "I hope the Medicine Ball really works. I just tested positive for Covid." Then the customer proceed to cough without covering their mouth or nose towards him, also without a mask on.

He got covid not even a week later, and he felt so terrible.

That behavior should be illegal, holy shit

Tbh I tell customers the medicine ball doesn’t help and they try to argue w me lol. It’s sugar water fake honey and tea… just get tea lmao

Yeah I've heard the steamed lemonade is not good for your throat???

Tea is one of those standard drinks for when you're sick, idk why they don't just get that. With a pack of honey.

im the only person at my store who still wears a mask & i really admire other baristas that still wear one. sometimes i feel stupid but i only wear one to keep myself and my coworkers safe

Literally I’m one of a handful out of a store of abt 30… 4 workers got covid around the same time. I wonder why 🤔

Yeah I think there’s me and maybe 2 or 3 others out of about 30 that wear them. I work with a disabled boy as my full time job, so I do it a lot to make sure I don’t bring germs over to him (as well as obviously masking around him). Aside from keeping me well, I also just like wearing the mask bc then I don’t have to worry about what my face is doing lol. I’ve worked at Starbucks since the start of the pandemic and know for sure that I am likely making super weird concentrating faces that are hidden by my mask 😁

yes this!! i love wearing a mask. i’ve gotten into the habit of talking to myself and and i always kinda make weird faces and it makes me feel more comfortable when customers are staring at me and they cant see my reactions

I know I’ve caught myself focusing and noticing my tongue is sticking partly out behind my mask. I also one time almost went to lick caramel drizzle off my hand just out of instinct, luckily I was like “oh mask, oh gross” 😬😅

Wearing a mask allows me to go into work on days when my skin is bad and I can't shave properly and my dysphoria is severe tbh

In that sense they're practically a life saver for me

Recently stopped wearing mine when a heatwave hit and made it hard to wear while working. I'm Boosted and have had several of my family members who I live with catch it without it getting spread to me, so I'm fairly confident in my shots. Found it annoying to wear after I had taken it off for a few days and haven't really gone back.

i always wore a mask at work. not only for myself but others. working with food all day, i did not want to breathe onto people's food/drink if i was potentially sick. covid changed my perspective on wearing masks and im absolutely going to be wearing one if i have to work with food
