this has been driving me crazy! what's the standard? (self.starbucksbaristas)

When you make a drink with foam, do you give light ice? Or less of the drink? I never can get a straight answer

I do light ice. The standard for the cold foam cold brews is still to fill cold brew to the third line, then ice, then foam, so that’s what I follow for other drinks with added foam!

No it’s less ice - you still fill the cup to the third line and then adjust your ice to make room for the foam

I do light ice because a) Starbucks is expensive and b) it isn’t coming out my check

Also I’m pretty sure the standard is to do light ice on beverages with cold foam of any kind.

Agreed and good to know. It's when someone orders light ice and foam that throws me off lol
Angelalmanzar21 6 points 9m ago
i would just do it with the regular light ice its like when they ask for a modification that’s already in the drink. omg one time this customer wanted a crc and he asked for all the modifications it came with😭😭
NickiTheNotSoThicki 39 points 9m ago
I just do a scoop down of ice bc it leaves room that the drink goes up to the top notches of the cup then I put the foam. Always gives me the correct amount of room for it
canidieyet_ 13 points 9m ago
this is the answer. lowkey i’d be annoyed if i got half of my drink just because i ordered foam
gabby24681 10 points 9m ago
Same here. Good for consistency.
durqandat 2 points 9m ago
I do the same
nightimevil 12 points 9m ago
The recipe for cold brews with cold foam says to put cold brew to the 3rd line, ice with room for cold foam. I do the same steps for any other drink with cold foam. I measure the space by using the grooves on the cups, and those work out perfectly for me.

At the end of the day though, this is a question for your shifts or SM. They should be making sure that your store produces consistent products.

I’m the problem. If I’m paying close enough attention I give less ice, coffee/cold brew, and milk (if requested). However if I’m not paying attention at all I just give less ice so I can still fit the foam. Because sometimes the customer is right there watching me dump their drink and put more ice in which they won’t like. Lol

I do less ice and more foam. They are paying a 1.25 for the foam. Someone told me at work the foam used to be made with only non fat milk and vanilla. So of course I tried it and hands down it foams so much better and tastes about the same.
iiiimagery [OP] 18 points 9m ago
That's a different foam, and why are you lying it tastes totally different 😭
b99__throwaway 5 points 9m ago
i used to think cold foam was just nonfat milk no vanilla😭
franglaisedbeignet 1 points 9m ago
Yes cold foam is just non fat milk. I was trying to reply to the person who said that’s a totally different foam. My original point was the there used to not be a VSC. The original foam was made with nonfat milk and vanilla.
franglaisedbeignet 5 points 9m ago
Yeah I know it’s called Cold Foam. This person told me it was before they made the VSC with heavy cream, 2% milk and vanilla. To me it tasted the same, but I avoid dairy generally so what do I know!!! The VSC gets so watery and half the time doesn’t foam for shit. I end up putting a splash of whipping cream in it just to get it to foam up.
iiiimagery [OP] 7 points 9m ago
I avoid dairy but nonfat tastes foul to me 🫡 also if its watery ur store isn't making it right 😅
franglaisedbeignet 3 points 9m ago
Agree. I make it correctly when I do it but of course I can’t control anybody else.
mangotangoafterdark 7 points 9m ago
i do a mix of a little less milk/cold brew/ice coffee and a little less ice
Mediocre_Study8460 1 points 9m ago
You fill to the second line instead of the third like you do for macchiato’s
Veldora12 1 points 9m ago
Light ice
ichxnel 1 points 9m ago
Ok I have a follow up question. When you go to blend the foam do you press 3 (wet cold foam) or 4 (dry cold foam) every coworker does it differently 😭
dazedandconfusedhere 4 points 9m ago
3! The dry cold foam button was used back when we had cloud powder for the cloud macchiatos
iiiimagery [OP] 3 points 9m ago
Tbh were supposed to use 3 but I use 4 if it's kind of watery or not cold enough
BlueMuffins92 1 points 9m ago
You give the same amount of drink you normally would and fill the ice up so that you leave 1” for the foam.
happybowlita83 1 points 9m ago
Light ice, but not too little since the foam standard is about 1" of foam. One of my pet peeves is seeing baristas make them with like 3" of foam as standard.
