afaik, there’s no limit, and you can even submit multiple availability requests as long as the dates don’t overlap. for example, once i get my class schedule for the semester i’ll update my availability for (first day of semester) to (last day of semester), and immediately after submitting that, in a separate request i’ll put in my availability from (first day of break) to (first day of next semester).
the only caveat i’m aware of is that you need to put in your availability (and also time off requests) 3 weeks ahead so the SM has it when they’re making new schedules.
for schedules that are already posted, you’re usually expected to find coverage if you can’t work that shift - but also definitely communicate with your SM about those shifts, and more generally if you have concerns/questions about your availability.
