how often can you change your availability? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sunshinesugar754
I transferred stores in August. Gave my new manager my availability via text as requested. He called me to confirm it was correct before he inputted it. All has been great. Only scheduled 12 hours as requested because of school, during my availability. Was off every weekend which I found odd but wasn't gonna complain as he told me he really needed weekday openers. Sure.

Now two months later, the newest schedules have me working on Tuesdays and that's the one day I really can't work since I have class at 8:30. But then I was wondering how I was getting scheduled since I'm not available on Tuesdays. I just discovered how I can see my availability I have in the system and my availability is all wrong! Not what I had given. (and now I see why I was never scheduled weekends).

I need to get this fixed asap but I know I'll be changing my availability in January to reflect next semesters classes but I was wondering how often you can change your availability, I'd imagine you can only do it so many times..

afaik, there’s no limit, and you can even submit multiple availability requests as long as the dates don’t overlap. for example, once i get my class schedule for the semester i’ll update my availability for (first day of semester) to (last day of semester), and immediately after submitting that, in a separate request i’ll put in my availability from (first day of break) to (first day of next semester).

the only caveat i’m aware of is that you need to put in your availability (and also time off requests) 3 weeks ahead so the SM has it when they’re making new schedules.

for schedules that are already posted, you’re usually expected to find coverage if you can’t work that shift - but also definitely communicate with your SM about those shifts, and more generally if you have concerns/questions about your availability.
