I like to place myself in a position where I can easily float around and support everyone, but it also depends on the time of day and who I’m working with

It depends on the store and how strong your partners are…AND how well you can work with them.
Like I have a low volume cafe and for peak I have three people.
Typically I have myself as support (backline for food and bar) and I have a strong bar partner and a strong ringer…
Other days I am the strongest bar partner and I’m on the bar cranking out drinks and running the shift from bar (which needless to say…absolutely sucks…) so it just depends on the best place and best skills. But typically CS…so you have the ability to flex the play and support whichever position needs it.

during peak, support only. otherwise ill just place myself in positions others dont wanna do, or to cover breaks and such. i like to let exhausted baristas do off the floor tasks and give em a breath of fresh air because i get to be off the floor for my own tasks. unfortunately this is something lots of shifts dont do, and take every opportunity to put themselves off floor. i only do tasks if we are overstaffed and everyone is newly positioned, and if the tasks are less direct

The official guidance is that SSVs should always be in a flexible support position so they can monitor what’s going on in every position

I like to put myself somewhere where I can easily flex myself into the play if needed, and can observe all partners. Usually warming or DTO, I’ll only put myself on bar if a partner is struggling or I need to run a break. I work at a high volume drive thru so this works for me. Being on warming is helpful around later peak time because you can combine sammy’s and start prepping for the pull too. Also when running your break warming and DTO can be handled by most partners new and experienced. Hope that helps!

Peak -DTO ( so I can jump in where needed)
Mid/night- R1 so I can float around help with cleaning and also finish any tasks I need to get done.
Basically in a position where I’m flexible
Very rarely do I put myself in bar. Only really do that if I need to slide for breaks and have a green bean I can’t slide into that position
