Asking a store manager for a letter of recommendation? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lizzygr2ntt
Hi all, currently gathering letters of recommendation for college apps. Do you guys think it would be a good idea to ask for one from my store manager? We are really close and on good terms. Also wondering if it would be possible to ask a shift supervisor? Just curious!

Hi! I actually asked my SM for a letter of recommendation for a graduate program I applied to! He said yes and I got in! If y’all are on good terms and you trust they’ll give a good letter, than I say go for it!

thank you so much for the reply!!! If you don’t mind me asking, how did you go about asking them? Should I formally email my SM?

I talked to him in person first! He knew I was applying to graduate school, so I didn’t have to explain that. I told him that I needed one more letter of recommendation (a teacher wasn’t pulling through lmao) for the primary school I wanted to go to and asked if he was willing to write a letter of recommendation for me. After that, I sent him the letter of recommendation link and he did the letter and submitted it. Really simple conversation honestly! Just explain what you need and why and you should be okay 👌🏻

agree with other comments that it sounds like your SM could give you a great rec, so go for it! the worst they can do is say no.

there’s nothing technically wrong with asking a SSV, but if you’re getting one from your SM i’d recommend trying to get other letters from a different (non-work) source, e.g. a teacher, sports coach, or any extracurricular/volunteering/other activity if you have them, since theoretically they could showcase different qualities/strengths that you have.

If it makes sense with the rest of your application yeah
