there’s one person at our store who’s been here for a year and can’t do anything other than drive through, register & warming and can’t do them well. is there a point where they can get let go? just curious

I’ve literally never seen anyone get fired unless they were like, caught stealing.

Or, if the SM doesn’t like you they’ll eventually find a way to fire you.

Im not sure but at my store, there used to be this one person who got hired and he was im sorry but terrible on bar. He had been there for a year at this point and any time he would be asked to go on bar, he would leave a ton of drinks half made and forget about them or go back to them a while after. He still didnt kno the recipes a year in. When they started noticing that, the shifts and the manager started putting him on register and there would always be a TON of remakes. He didnt correctly ring people up on the milk screen for certain drinks. No matter how much we tried to help him (everyone in the store), it just wouldnt click. He was with us for a whole year and then he left to go enlist (dont know exactly which one tho). I gotta say tho he was very good at customer connecting at the register lol. But yea so idk what would have happened if he didnt go to enlist.

I’ve seen it happen but apparently it took a long time. The person refused to work any position besides register, and wasn’t even good at doing that.

Depends on the SM and honestly a lot of times it comes down to clique like environments. Seen people who should be fired but they were either tight with the right people or the manager was too short staffed / gave a second 2nd chance and a third 3rd chance.

Have also seen super competent baristas that didn’t play into the clique thing with a petty and bitter SM that was just looking and waiting for any reason to write up/fire them. Also , another competent barista who was fired for medical issues. So much for non-discrimination.

Likely depends on the formula of personality types.

that’s definitely not the case with this person because not anybody likes them 😅

you can get an action plan where they basically retrain you after x months, and if you fail the skill check after that you have 3 months until there's another one, if you fail the skill check 3 times you basically get separated i think (idk how true this is, ive only heard ab it in passing)
