What is COBRA? Why did my insurances drop? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by iCeleste
I'm really stupid about stuff like this because the information is never laid out plainly.
I went to pay for contacts the other day - with my plan with VSP it should have used the $130 allowance and then I would pay the remainder. But I wasn't even in the system when they went to look up my insurance? And on the benefits site it says I'm not enrolled, but that I have to click on "COBRA" in the mail. I don't recall doing this last year - is that the same thing as the normal benefits? I feel so dumb and lost.

It means you didn’t have enough hours this last quarter, and lost your benefits. Cobra allows you to hold on to your benefits until you get yours hours back up, but it’s significantly more expensive.

Ahhh I was wondering why the medical portion was so ridiculous. The vision seems to be about the same, at least, so maybe I'll only do that one...

Thank you though!

It sounds like your insurance lapsed. Did you re-enroll for benefits this year?

Cobra is a rip off. It’s almost never worth it unless you absolutely need it, which is how they screw people.
